DutiyÄdidvayakÄrÄ«suttattika Both Kinds of Deeds (2ndā4th)
SÄvatthinidÄnaį¹. At SÄvatthÄ«.
Ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho so bhikkhu bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca: Seated to one side, that mendicant said to the Buddha:
āko nu kho, bhante, hetu, ko paccayo, yena midhekacco kÄyassa bhedÄ paraį¹ maraį¹Ä jalÄbujÄnaį¹ supaį¹į¹Änaį¹ ā¦peā¦ āSir, what is the cause, what is the reason why someone, when their body breaks up, after death, is reborn in the company of the womb-born phoenixes ā¦ā
saį¹sedajÄnaį¹ supaį¹į¹Änaį¹ ā¦peā¦ āā¦ moisture-born phoenixes ā¦ā
opapÄtikÄnaį¹ supaį¹į¹Änaį¹ sahabyataį¹ upapajjatÄ«āti? āā¦ or spontaneously-born phoenixes?ā
āIdha, bhikkhu, ekacco kÄyena dvayakÄrÄ« hoti, vÄcÄya dvayakÄrÄ«, manasÄ dvayakÄrÄ«. āMendicant, itās when someone does both kinds of deeds by body, speech, and mind.
Tassa sutaį¹ hoti: And theyāve heard:
āopapÄtikÄ supaį¹į¹Ä dÄ«ghÄyukÄ vaį¹į¹avanto sukhabahulÄāti. āThe spontaneously-born phoenixes are long-lived, beautiful, and very happy.ā
Tassa evaį¹ hoti: They think:
āaho vatÄhaį¹ kÄyassa bhedÄ paraį¹ maraį¹Ä opapÄtikÄnaį¹ supaį¹į¹Änaį¹ sahabyataį¹ upapajjeyyanāti. āIf only, when my body breaks up, after death, I would be reborn in the company of the spontaneously-born phoenixes!ā
So kÄyassa bhedÄ paraį¹ maraį¹Ä opapÄtikÄnaį¹ supaį¹į¹Änaį¹ sahabyataį¹ upapajjati. When their body breaks up, after death, theyāre reborn in the company of the spontaneously-born phoenixes.
Ayaį¹ kho, bhikkhu, hetu, ayaį¹ paccayo, yena midhekacco kÄyassa bhedÄ paraį¹ maraį¹Ä opapÄtikÄnaį¹ supaį¹į¹Änaį¹ sahabyataį¹ upapajjatÄ«āti. This is the cause, this is the reason why someone, when their body breaks up, after death, is reborn in the company of the spontaneously-born phoenixes.ā
