āPubbeva me, bhikkhave, sambodhÄ anabhisambuddhassa bodhisattasseva sato etadahosi: āMendicants, before my awakeningāwhen I was still unawakened but intent on awakeningāI thought:
āko nu kho cakkhussa assÄdo, ko ÄdÄ«navo, kiį¹ nissaraį¹aį¹? āWhatās the gratification, the drawback, and the escape when it comes to the eye ā¦

Tassa mayhaį¹, bhikkhave, etadahosi: Then it occurred to me:
āyaį¹ kho cakkhuį¹ paį¹icca uppajjati sukhaį¹ somanassaį¹, ayaį¹ cakkhussa assÄdo. āThe pleasure and happiness that arise from the eye: this is its gratification.
Yaį¹ cakkhuį¹ aniccaį¹ dukkhaį¹ vipariį¹Ämadhammaį¹, ayaį¹ cakkhussa ÄdÄ«navo. That the eye is impermanent, suffering, and perishable: this is its drawback.
Yo cakkhusmiį¹ chandarÄgavinayo chandarÄgappahÄnaį¹, idaį¹ cakkhussa nissaraį¹aį¹. Removing and giving up desire and greed for the eye: this is its escape.
Yaį¹ sotaį¹ ā¦peā¦ The pleasure and happiness that arise from the ear ā¦

Yo jivhÄya chandarÄgavinayo chandarÄgappahÄnaį¹, idaį¹ jivhÄya nissaraį¹aį¹.

yaį¹ manaį¹ paį¹icca uppajjati sukhaį¹ somanassaį¹, ayaį¹ manassa assÄdo. mind: this is its gratification.
Yaį¹ mano anicco dukkho vipariį¹Ämadhammo, ayaį¹ manassa ÄdÄ«navo. That the mind is impermanent, suffering, and perishable: this is its drawback.
Yo manasmiį¹ chandarÄgavinayo chandarÄgappahÄnaį¹, idaį¹ manassa nissaraį¹anāti. Removing and giving up desire and greed for the mind: this is its escape.ā
YÄvakÄ«vaƱcÄhaį¹, bhikkhave, imesaį¹ channaį¹ ajjhattikÄnaį¹ ÄyatanÄnaį¹ evaį¹ assÄdaƱca assÄdato, ÄdÄ«navaƱca ÄdÄ«navato, nissaraį¹aƱca nissaraį¹ato yathÄbhÅ«taį¹ nÄbbhaƱƱÄsiį¹, neva tÄvÄhaį¹, bhikkhave, sadevake loke samÄrake sabrahmake sassamaį¹abrÄhmaį¹iyÄ pajÄya sadevamanussÄya āanuttaraį¹ sammÄsambodhiį¹ abhisambuddhoāti paccaƱƱÄsiį¹. As long as I didnāt truly understand these six interior sense fieldsā gratification, drawback, and escape in this way for what they are, I didnāt announce my supreme perfect awakening in this world with its gods, MÄras, and Divinities, this population with its ascetics and brahmins, its gods and humans.
Yato ca khvÄhaį¹, bhikkhave, imesaį¹ channaį¹ ajjhattikÄnaį¹ ÄyatanÄnaį¹ evaį¹ assÄdaƱca assÄdato, ÄdÄ«navaƱca ÄdÄ«navato, nissaraį¹aƱca nissaraį¹ato yathÄbhÅ«taį¹ abbhaƱƱÄsiį¹, athÄhaį¹, bhikkhave, sadevake loke samÄrake sabrahmake sassamaį¹abrÄhmaį¹iyÄ pajÄya sadevamanussÄya āanuttaraį¹ sammÄsambodhiį¹ abhisambuddhoāti paccaƱƱÄsiį¹. But when I did truly understand these six interior sense fieldsā gratification, drawback, and escape in this way for what they are, I announced my supreme perfect awakening in this world with its gods, MÄras, and Divinities, this population with its ascetics and brahmins, its gods and humans.
ĆÄį¹aƱca pana me dassanaį¹ udapÄdi: Knowledge and vision arose in me:
āakuppÄ me vimutti, ayamantimÄ jÄti, natthi dÄni punabbhavoāāti. āMy freedom is unshakable; this is my last rebirth; now thereāll be no more future lives.āā
