Sāvatthinidānaį¹. At SāvatthÄ«.

ā€œSabbaį¹ vo, bhikkhave, desessāmi. ā€œMendicants, I will teach you the all.

Taį¹ suį¹‡Ätha. Listen ā€¦

KiƱca, bhikkhave, sabbaį¹? And what is the all?

CakkhuƱceva rÅ«pā ca, sotaƱca saddā ca, ghānaƱca gandhā ca, jivhā ca rasā ca, kāyo ca phoį¹­į¹­habbā ca, mano ca dhammā caā€”Itā€™s just the eye and sights, the ear and sounds, the nose and smells, the tongue and tastes, the body and touches, and the mind and ideas.

idaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, sabbaį¹. This is called the all.

Yo, bhikkhave, evaį¹ vadeyya: Mendicants, suppose someone was to say:

ā€˜ahametaį¹ sabbaį¹ paccakkhāya aƱƱaį¹ sabbaį¹ paƱƱāpessāmÄ«ā€™ti, tassa vācāvatthukamevassa; ā€˜Iā€™ll reject this all and describe another all.ā€™ Theyā€™d have no grounds for that,

puį¹­į¹­ho ca na sampāyeyya, uttariƱca vighātaį¹ āpajjeyya. theyā€™d be stumped by questions, and, in addition, theyā€™d get frustrated.

Taį¹ kissa hetu? Why is that?

Yathā taį¹, bhikkhave, avisayasminā€ti. Because theyā€™re out of their element.ā€
