āYo hi koci, bhikkhave, bhikkhu channaį¹ phassÄyatanÄnaį¹ samudayaƱca atthaį¹
gamaƱca assÄdaƱca ÄdÄ«navaƱca nissaraį¹aƱca yathÄbhÅ«taį¹ nappajÄnÄti. āMendicants, anyone who doesnāt truly understand the six fields of contactās origin, ending, gratification, drawback, and escape
Avusitaį¹ tena brahmacariyaį¹, ÄrakÄ so imasmÄ dhammavinayÄāti. has not completed the spiritual journey and is far from this teaching and training.ā
Evaį¹ vutte, aƱƱataro bhikkhu bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca: When he said this, one of the mendicants said to the Buddha,
āetthÄhaį¹, bhante, anassasaį¹ panassasaį¹. āHere, sir, Iām lost, truly lost.
AhaƱhi, bhante, channaį¹ phassÄyatanÄnaį¹ samudayaƱca atthaį¹
gamaƱca assÄdaƱca ÄdÄ«navaƱca nissaraį¹aƱca yathÄbhÅ«taį¹ nappajÄnÄmÄ«āti. For I donāt truly understand the six fields of contactās origin, ending, gratification, drawback, and escape.ā
āTaį¹ kiį¹ maƱƱasi, bhikkhu, āWhat do you think, mendicant?
cakkhuį¹ ānetaį¹ mama, nesohamasmi, na meso attÄāti samanupassasÄ«āti? Do you regard the eye like this: āThis is not mine, I am not this, this is not my selfā?ā
āEvaį¹, bhanteā. āYes, sir.ā
āSÄdhu, bhikkhu, ettha ca te, bhikkhu, cakkhu ānetaį¹ mama, nesohamasmi na meso attÄāti evametaį¹ yathÄbhÅ«taį¹ sammappaƱƱÄya sudiį¹į¹haį¹ bhavissati. āGood, mendicant! And regarding the eye, you will truly see clearly with right wisdom that: āThis is not mine, I am not this, this is not my self.ā
Evaį¹ te etaį¹ paį¹hamaį¹ phassÄyatanaį¹ pahÄ«naį¹ bhavissati Äyatiį¹ apunabbhavÄya ā¦peā¦. In this way you will give up the first field of contact, so that there are no more future lives.
āJivhaį¹ ānetaį¹ mama, nesohamasmi, na meso attÄāti samanupassasÄ«āti? Do you regard the ear ā¦ nose ā¦ tongue ā¦ body ā¦
āEvaį¹, bhanteā.
āSÄdhu, bhikkhu, ettha ca te, bhikkhu, jivhÄ ānetaį¹ mama, nesohamasmi na meso attÄāti evametaį¹ yathÄbhÅ«taį¹ sammappaƱƱÄya sudiį¹į¹haį¹ bhavissati. Evaį¹ te etaį¹ catutthaį¹ phassÄyatanaį¹ pahÄ«naį¹ bhavissati Äyatiį¹ apunabbhavÄya ā¦peā¦.
āManaį¹ ānetaį¹ mama, nesohamasmi, na meso attÄāti samanupassasÄ«āti? Do you regard the mind like this: āThis is not mine, I am not this, this is not my selfā?ā
āEvaį¹, bhanteā. āYes, sir.ā
āSÄdhu, bhikkhu, ettha ca te, bhikkhu, mano ānetaį¹ mama, nesohamasmi, na meso attÄāti evametaį¹ yathÄbhÅ«taį¹ sammappaƱƱÄya sudiį¹į¹haį¹ bhavissati. āGood, mendicant! And regarding the mind, you will truly see clearly with right wisdom that: āThis is not mine, I am not this, this is not my self.ā
Evaį¹ te etaį¹ chaį¹į¹haį¹ phassÄyatanaį¹ pahÄ«naį¹ bhavissati Äyatiį¹ apunabbhavÄyÄāti. In this way you will give up the sixth field of contact, so that there are no more future lives.ā
