LokapaƱhÄsutta A Question On the World
Atha kho aƱƱataro bhikkhu yena bhagavÄ ā¦peā¦ ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho so bhikkhu bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca: Then a mendicant went up to the Buddha ā¦ and said to him:
āāLoko, lokoāti, bhante, vuccati. āSir, they speak of this thing called āthe worldā.
KittÄvatÄ nu kho, bhante, lokoti vuccatÄ«āti? How is the world defined?ā
āāLujjatÄ«āti kho, bhikkhu, tasmÄ lokoti vuccati. āIt wears away, mendicant, thatās why itās called āthe worldā.
KiƱca lujjati? And what is wearing away?
Cakkhu kho, bhikkhu, lujjati. The eye is wearing away.
RÅ«pÄ lujjanti, cakkhuviƱƱÄį¹aį¹ lujjati, cakkhusamphasso lujjati, yampidaį¹ cakkhusamphassapaccayÄ uppajjati vedayitaį¹ sukhaį¹ vÄ dukkhaį¹ vÄ adukkhamasukhaį¹ vÄ tampi lujjati ā¦peā¦ Sights ā¦ eye consciousness ā¦ eye contact is wearing away. The painful, pleasant, or neutral feeling that arises conditioned by eye contact is also wearing away.

mano lujjati, dhammÄ lujjanti, manoviƱƱÄį¹aį¹ lujjati, manosamphasso lujjati, yampidaį¹ manosamphassapaccayÄ uppajjati vedayitaį¹ sukhaį¹ vÄ dukkhaį¹ vÄ adukkhamasukhaį¹ vÄ tampi lujjati. The mind ā¦ ideas ā¦ mind consciousness ā¦ mind contact is wearing away. The painful, pleasant, or neutral feeling that arises conditioned by mind contact is also wearing away.
