Paį¹­hamanatumhākasutta Itā€™s Not Yours (1st)

ā€œYaį¹, bhikkhave, na tumhākaį¹, taį¹ pajahatha. ā€œMendicants, give up whatā€™s not yours.

Taį¹ vo pahÄ«naį¹ hitāya sukhāya bhavissati. Giving it up will be for your welfare and happiness.

KiƱca, bhikkhave, na tumhākaį¹? And what isnā€™t yours?

Cakkhu, bhikkhave, na tumhākaį¹. The eye isnā€™t yours: give it up.

Taį¹ pajahatha.

Taį¹ vo pahÄ«naį¹ hitāya sukhāya bhavissati. Giving it up will be for your welfare and happiness.

Te pajahatha.

Te vo pahīnā hitāya sukhāya bhavissanti.

So vo pahīno hitāya sukhāya bhavissati.

Yampidaį¹ cakkhusamphassapaccayā uppajjati vedayitaį¹ sukhaį¹ vā dukkhaį¹ vā adukkhamasukhaį¹ vā tampi na tumhākaį¹. The pleasant, painful, or neutral feeling that arises conditioned by eye contact isnā€™t yours: give it up.

Taį¹ pajahatha.

Taį¹ vo pahÄ«naį¹ hitāya sukhāya bhavissati. Giving it up will be for your welfare and happiness.

Jivhāsamphasso na tumhākaį¹.

Taį¹ pajahatha.

So vo pahīno hitāya sukhāya bhavissati.

Yampidaį¹ jivhāsamphassapaccayā uppajjati vedayitaį¹ sukhaį¹ vā dukkhaį¹ vā adukkhamasukhaį¹ vā tampi na tumhākaį¹.

Taį¹ pajahatha. Taį¹ vo pahÄ«naį¹ hitāya sukhāya bhavissati ā€¦peā€¦.

Mano na tumhākaį¹. The mind isnā€™t yours: give it up.

Taį¹ pajahatha.

So vo pahīno hitāya sukhāya bhavissati. Giving it up will be for your welfare and happiness.

Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, yaį¹ imasmiį¹ jetavane tiį¹‡akaį¹­į¹­hasākhāpalāsaį¹ taį¹ jano hareyya vā įøaheyya vā yathāpaccayaį¹ vā kareyya, Suppose a person was to carry off the grass, sticks, branches, and leaves in this Jetaā€™s Grove, or burn them, or do what they want with them.

api nu tumhākaį¹ evamassa: Would you think:

ā€˜amhe jano harati vā įøahati vā yathāpaccayaį¹ vā karotÄ«ā€™ā€ti? ā€˜This person is carrying us off, burning us, or doing what they want with usā€™?ā€

ā€œNo hetaį¹, bhanteā€. ā€œNo, sir.

ā€œTaį¹ kissa hetuā€? Why is that?

ā€œNa hi no etaį¹, bhante, attā vā attaniyaį¹ vāā€ti. Because to us thatā€™s neither self nor belonging to self.ā€

ā€œEvameva kho, bhikkhave, cakkhu na tumhākaį¹. ā€œIn the same way, the eye isnā€™t yours: give it up.
