Yogakkhemisutta Sanctuary from the Yoke

Sāvatthinidānaį¹. At SāvatthÄ«.

ā€œYogakkhemipariyāyaį¹ vo, bhikkhave, dhammapariyāyaį¹ desessāmi. ā€œMendicants, I will teach you an exposition of the teaching, an explanation of one who has found sanctuary from the yoke.

Taį¹ suį¹‡Ätha. Listen ā€¦

Katamo ca, bhikkhave, yogakkhemipariyāyo dhammapariyāyo? And what is an exposition of the teaching, an explanation of one who has found sanctuary from the yoke?

Santi, bhikkhave, cakkhuviƱƱeyyā rÅ«pā iį¹­į¹­hā kantā manāpā piyarÅ«pā kāmÅ«pasaį¹hitā rajanÄ«yā. There are sights known by the eye, which are likable, desirable, agreeable, pleasant, sensual, and arousing.

Te tathāgatassa pahÄ«nā ucchinnamÅ«lā tālāvatthukatā anabhāvaį¹…katā āyatiį¹ anuppādadhammā. The Realized One has given these up, cut them off at the root, made them like a palm stump, and obliterated them, so they are unable to arise in the future.

TesaƱca pahānāya akkhāsi yogaį¹, tasmā tathāgato ā€˜yogakkhemÄ«ā€™ti vuccati ā€¦peā€¦ He teaches yoking oneself to meditation for giving them up. Thatā€™s why the Realized One is called one who has found sanctuary from the yoke. ā€¦

santi, bhikkhave, manoviƱƱeyyā dhammā iį¹­į¹­hā kantā manāpā piyarÅ«pā kāmÅ«pasaį¹hitā rajanÄ«yā. There are ideas known by the mind, which are likable, desirable, agreeable, pleasant, sensual, and arousing.
