Indriyasampannasutta Endowed With Faculties

Atha kho aƱƱataro bhikkhu yena bhagavā tenupasaį¹…kami ā€¦peā€¦ ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho so bhikkhu bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca: Then a mendicant went up to the Buddha ā€¦ and asked him,

ā€œā€˜indriyasampanno, indriyasampannoā€™ti, bhante, vuccati. ā€œSir, they speak of someone who is ā€˜accomplished regarding the facultiesā€™.

Kittāvatā nu kho, bhante, indriyasampanno hotÄ«ā€ti? How is someone accomplished regarding the faculties defined?ā€

ā€œCakkhundriye ce, bhikkhu, udayabbayānupassÄ« viharanto cakkhundriye nibbindati ā€¦peā€¦ ā€œMendicant, if someone meditates observing rise and fall in the eye faculty, they grow disillusioned with the eye faculty.

jivhindriye ce, bhikkhu, udayabbayānupassÄ« viharanto jivhindriye nibbindati ā€¦peā€¦ If they meditate observing rise and fall in the ear faculty ā€¦ nose faculty ā€¦ tongue faculty ā€¦ body faculty ā€¦

manindriye ce, bhikkhu, udayabbayānupassī viharanto manindriye nibbindati. mind faculty, they grow disillusioned with the mind faculty.

Nibbindaį¹ virajjati ā€¦peā€¦ vimuttasmiį¹ vimuttamiti Ʊāį¹‡aį¹ hoti. Being disillusioned, desire fades away. ā€¦ When theyā€™re freed, they know theyā€™re freed.

ā€˜KhÄ«į¹‡Ä jāti, vusitaį¹ brahmacariyaį¹, kataį¹ karaį¹‡Ä«yaį¹, nāparaį¹ itthattāyāā€™ti pajānāti. They understand: ā€˜Rebirth is ended, the spiritual journey has been completed, what had to be done has been done, there is nothing further for this place.ā€™

Ettāvatā kho, bhikkhu, indriyasampanno hotÄ«ā€ti. This is how someone who is accomplished regarding the faculties is defined.ā€
