Koį¹į¹hikadukkhasutta With Koį¹į¹hita on Suffering
Atha kho ÄyasmÄ mahÄkoį¹į¹hiko ā¦peā¦ bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca: Then Venerable MahÄkoį¹į¹hita ā¦ said to the Buddha:
āsÄdhu me, bhante ā¦peā¦ vihareyyanāti. āSir, may the Buddha please teach me Dhamma in brief. When Iāve heard it, Iāll live alone, withdrawn, diligent, keen, and resolute.ā
āYaį¹ kho, koį¹į¹hika, dukkhaį¹ tatra te chando pahÄtabbo. āKoį¹į¹hita, you should give up desire for what is suffering.
KiƱca, koį¹į¹hika, dukkhaį¹? And what is suffering?
Cakkhu kho, koį¹į¹hika, dukkhaį¹; tatra te chando pahÄtabbo. The eye,

CakkhuviƱƱÄį¹aį¹ dukkhaį¹; tatra te chando pahÄtabbo. eye consciousness,
Cakkhusamphasso dukkho; tatra te chando pahÄtabbo. and eye contact are suffering: you should give up desire for them.
Yampidaį¹ cakkhusamphassapaccayÄ uppajjati vedayitaį¹ sukhaį¹ vÄ dukkhaį¹ vÄ adukkhamasukhaį¹ vÄ tampi dukkhaį¹; tatra te chando pahÄtabbo ā¦peā¦ The pleasant, painful, or neutral feeling that arises conditioned by eye contact is also suffering; you should give up desire for it.
