Koį¹­į¹­hikadukkhasutta With Koį¹­į¹­hita on Suffering

Atha kho āyasmā mahākoį¹­į¹­hiko ā€¦peā€¦ bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca: Then Venerable Mahākoį¹­į¹­hita ā€¦ said to the Buddha:

ā€œsādhu me, bhante ā€¦peā€¦ vihareyyanā€ti. ā€œSir, may the Buddha please teach me Dhamma in brief. When Iā€™ve heard it, Iā€™ll live alone, withdrawn, diligent, keen, and resolute.ā€

ā€œYaį¹ kho, koį¹­į¹­hika, dukkhaį¹ tatra te chando pahātabbo. ā€œKoį¹­į¹­hita, you should give up desire for what is suffering.

KiƱca, koį¹­į¹­hika, dukkhaį¹? And what is suffering?

Cakkhu kho, koį¹­į¹­hika, dukkhaį¹; tatra te chando pahātabbo. The eye,

Rūpā dukkhā; tatra te chando pahātabbo. sights,

CakkhuviƱƱāį¹‡aį¹ dukkhaį¹; tatra te chando pahātabbo. eye consciousness,

Cakkhusamphasso dukkho; tatra te chando pahātabbo. and eye contact are suffering: you should give up desire for them.

Yampidaį¹ cakkhusamphassapaccayā uppajjati vedayitaį¹ sukhaį¹ vā dukkhaį¹ vā adukkhamasukhaį¹ vā tampi dukkhaį¹; tatra te chando pahātabbo ā€¦peā€¦ The pleasant, painful, or neutral feeling that arises conditioned by eye contact is also suffering; you should give up desire for it.

jivhā dukkhā; tatra te chando pahātabbo ā€¦peā€¦ The ear ā€¦ nose ā€¦ tongue ā€¦ body ā€¦

mano dukkho; tatra te chando pahātabbo. The mind,

Dhammā dukkhā; tatra te chando pahātabbo. ideas,

ManoviƱƱāį¹‡aį¹ dukkhaį¹; tatra te chando pahātabbo. mind consciousness,

Manosamphasso dukkho; tatra te chando pahātabbo. and mind contact are suffering: you should give up desire for them.

Yampidaį¹ manosamphassapaccayā uppajjati vedayitaį¹ sukhaį¹ vā dukkhaį¹ vā adukkhamasukhaį¹ vā tampi dukkhaį¹; tatra te chando pahātabbo. The pleasant, painful, or neutral feeling that arises conditioned by mind contact is also suffering: you should give up desire for it.

Yaį¹ kho, koį¹­į¹­hika, dukkhaį¹ tatra te chando pahātabboā€ti. Koį¹­į¹­hita, you should give up desire for what is suffering.ā€
