Attānudiį¹­į¹­hipahānasutta Giving Up View of Self

Atha kho aƱƱataro bhikkhu ā€¦peā€¦ Then a mendicant went up to the Buddha ā€¦

etadavoca: and said to him:

ā€œkathaį¹ nu kho, bhante, jānato kathaį¹ passato attānudiį¹­į¹­hi pahÄ«yatÄ«ā€ti? ā€œSir, how does one know and see so that view of self is given up?ā€

ā€œCakkhuį¹ kho, bhikkhu, anattato jānato passato attānudiį¹­į¹­hi pahÄ«yati. ā€œMendicant, knowing and seeing the eye, sights, eye consciousness, and eye contact as not-self, view of self is given up. ā€¦

RÅ«pe anattato jānato passato attānudiį¹­į¹­hi pahÄ«yati.

CakkhuviƱƱāį¹‡aį¹ anattato jānato passato attānudiį¹­į¹­hi pahÄ«yati.

Cakkhusamphassaį¹ anattato jānato passato attānudiį¹­į¹­hi pahÄ«yati.

yampidaį¹ manosamphassapaccayā uppajjati vedayitaį¹ sukhaį¹ vā dukkhaį¹ vā adukkhamasukhaį¹ vā tampi anattato jānato passato attānudiį¹­į¹­hi pahÄ«yatÄ«ā€ti. And also knowing and seeing the pleasant, painful, or neutral feeling that arises conditioned by mind contact as not-self, view of self is given up.ā€

Tassuddānaį¹

Nandikkhayena cattāro,

jīvakambavane duve;

Koį¹­į¹­hikena tayo vuttā,

micchā sakkāya attanoti.
