ā€œYassa kassaci, bhikkhave, bhikkhussa vā bhikkhuniyā vā cakkhuviƱƱeyyesu rÅ«pesu yo rāgo so atthi, yo doso so atthi, yo moho so atthi, yo rāgo so appahÄ«no, yo doso so appahÄ«no, yo moho so appahÄ«no tassa parittā cepi cakkhuviƱƱeyyā rÅ«pā cakkhussa āpāthaį¹ āgacchanti pariyādiyantevassa cittaį¹; ko pana vādo adhimattānaį¹. ā€œMendicants, take any monk or nun who, when it comes to sights known by the eye, still has greed, hate, and delusion, and has not given them up. If even trivial sights come into their range of vision they overcome their mind, let alone those that are compelling.

Yassa kassaci, bhikkhave, bhikkhussa vā bhikkhuniyā vā manoviƱƱeyyesu dhammesu yo rāgo so atthi, yo doso so atthi, yo moho so atthi, yo rāgo so appahÄ«no, yo doso so appahÄ«no, yo moho so appahÄ«no, tassa parittā cepi manoviƱƱeyyā dhammā manassa āpāthaį¹ āgacchanti pariyādiyantevassa cittaį¹; ko pana vādo adhimattānaį¹. ideas known by the mind, they still have greed, hate, and delusion, and have not given them up. If even trivial thoughts come into the range of the mind they overcome their mind, let alone those that are compelling.

Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, khÄ«rarukkho assattho vā nigrodho vā pilakkho vā udumbaro vā daharo taruį¹‡o komārako. Suppose there was a latex-producing treeā€”such as a peepal, a banyan, a wavy leaf fig, or a cluster figā€”thatā€™s a tender young sapling.

Tamenaį¹ puriso tiį¹‡hāya kuį¹­hāriyā yato yato ābhindeyya āgaccheyya khÄ«ranā€ti? If a man were to chop it here and there with a sharp axe, would latex come out?ā€

ā€œEvaį¹, bhanteā€. ā€œYes, sir.

ā€œYaƱhi, bhante, khÄ«raį¹ taį¹ atthÄ«ā€ti. Because it still has latex.ā€

Tamenaį¹ puriso tiį¹‡hāya kuį¹­hāriyā yato yato ābhindeyya āgaccheyya khÄ«ranā€ti? If a man were to chop it here and there with a sharp axe, would latex come out?ā€
