āāArahattaį¹, arahattanāti, Ävuso sÄriputta, vuccati. āReverend SÄriputta, they speak of this thing called āperfectionā.
Katamaį¹ nu kho, Ävuso, arahattanāti? What is perfection?ā
āYo kho, Ävuso, rÄgakkhayo dosakkhayo mohakkhayoāāReverend, the ending of greed, hate, and delusion
idaį¹ vuccati arahattanāti. is called perfection.ā
āAtthi panÄvuso, maggo atthi paį¹ipadÄ etassa arahattassa sacchikiriyÄyÄāti? āBut, reverend, is there a path and a practice for realizing this perfection?ā
āAtthi kho, Ävuso, maggo atthi paį¹ipadÄ etassa arahattassa sacchikiriyÄyÄāti. āThere is, reverend.ā
āKatamo panÄvuso, maggo katamÄ paį¹ipadÄ etassa arahattassa sacchikiriyÄyÄāti? āWell, what is it?ā
āAyameva kho, Ävuso, ariyo aį¹į¹haį¹
giko maggo etassa arahattassa sacchikiriyÄya, seyyathidaį¹āāIt is simply this noble eightfold path, that is:
sammÄdiį¹į¹hi ā¦peā¦ sammÄsamÄdhi. right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right immersion.
Ayaį¹ kho, Ävuso, maggo, ayaį¹ paį¹ipadÄ etassa arahattassa sacchikiriyÄyÄāti. This is the path, the practice, for realizing this perfection.ā
āBhaddako, Ävuso, maggo bhaddikÄ paį¹ipadÄ etassa arahattassa sacchikiriyÄya. āReverend, this is a fine path, a fine practice, for realizing this perfection.
AlaƱca panÄvuso sÄriputta, appamÄdÄyÄāti. Just this much is enough to be diligent.ā
