Taį¹‡hāpaƱhāsutta A Question About Craving

ā€œā€˜Taį¹‡hā, taį¹‡hāā€™ti, āvuso sāriputta, vuccati. ā€œReverend Sāriputta, they speak of this thing called ā€˜cravingā€™.

Katamā nu kho, āvuso, taį¹‡hāā€ti? What is craving?ā€

ā€œTisso imā, āvuso, taį¹‡hā. ā€œReverend, there are these three cravings.

Kāmataį¹‡hā, bhavataį¹‡hā, vibhavataį¹‡hāā€”Craving for sensual pleasures, craving to continue existence, and craving to end existence.

imā kho, āvuso, tisso taį¹‡hāā€ti. These are the three cravings.ā€

ā€œAtthi panāvuso, maggo atthi paį¹­ipadā, etāsaį¹ taį¹‡hānaį¹ pahānāyāā€ti? ā€œBut, reverend, is there a path and a practice for completely understanding these cravings?ā€

ā€œAtthi kho, āvuso, maggo atthi paį¹­ipadā, etāsaį¹ taį¹‡hānaį¹ pahānāyāā€ti. ā€œThere is.ā€ ā€¦

ā€œKatamo panāvuso, maggo katamā paį¹­ipadā, etāsaį¹ taį¹‡hānaį¹ pahānāyāā€ti?

ā€œAyameva kho, āvuso, ariyo aį¹­į¹­haį¹…giko maggo, etāsaį¹ taį¹‡hānaį¹ pahānāya, seyyathidaį¹ā€”

sammādiį¹­į¹­hi ā€¦peā€¦ sammāsamādhi.

Ayaį¹ kho, āvuso, maggo ayaį¹ paį¹­ipadā, etāsaį¹ taį¹‡hānaį¹ pahānāyāā€ti.

ā€œBhaddako, āvuso, maggo bhaddikā paį¹­ipadā, etāsaį¹ taį¹‡hānaį¹ pahānāya.
