1. Paį¹hamavagga Chapter One

Maggaį¹…gasutta The Path

ā€œKatamo ca, bhikkhave, asaį¹…khatagāmimaggo? ā€œAnd what is the path that leads to the unconditioned?

Ariyo aį¹į¹haį¹…giko maggo. The noble eightfold path.

Ayaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, asaį¹…khatagāmimaggo. This is called the path that leads to the unconditioned.

Iti kho, bhikkhave, desitaį¹ vo mayā asaį¹…khataį¹, desito asaį¹…khatagāmimaggo. So, mendicants, Iā€™ve taught you the unconditioned and the path that leads to the unconditioned.

Yaį¹, bhikkhave, satthārā karaį¹‡Ä«yaį¹ sāvakānaį¹ hitesinā anukampakena anukampaį¹ upādāya kataį¹ vo taį¹ mayā. Out of sympathy, Iā€™ve done what a teacher should do who wants whatā€™s best for their disciples.

Etāni, bhikkhave, rukkhamÅ«lāni, etāni suƱƱāgārāni. Jhāyatha, bhikkhave, mā pamādattha; mā pacchā vippaį¹isārino ahuvattha. Ayaį¹ vo amhākaį¹ anusāsanÄ«ā€ti. Here are these roots of trees, and here are these empty huts. Practice absorption, mendicants! Donā€™t be negligent! Donā€™t regret it later! This is my instruction to you.ā€

Ekādasamaį¹.
