āSeyyathÄpi, bhikkhave, sÄlisÅ«kaį¹ vÄ yavasÅ«kaį¹ vÄ micchÄpaį¹ihitaį¹ hatthena vÄ pÄdena vÄ akkantaį¹ hatthaį¹ vÄ pÄdaį¹ vÄ bhindissati, lohitaį¹ vÄ uppÄdessatÄ«tiānetaį¹ į¹hÄnaį¹ vijjati. āMendicants, suppose a spike of rice or barley was pointing the wrong way. If you trod on it with hand or foot, it is impossible for it to break the skin and produce blood.
Taį¹ kissa hetu? Why is that?
MicchÄpaį¹ihitattÄ, bhikkhave, sÅ«kassa. Because the spike is pointing the wrong way.
Evameva kho, bhikkhave, so vata bhikkhu micchÄpaį¹ihitÄya diį¹į¹hiyÄ micchÄpaį¹ihitÄya maggabhÄvanÄya avijjaį¹ bhindissati, vijjaį¹ uppÄdessati, nibbÄnaį¹ sacchikarissatÄ«tiānetaį¹ į¹hÄnaį¹ vijjati. In the same way, a mendicant whose view and development of the path is pointing the wrong way cannot break ignorance, produce knowledge, and realize extinguishment.

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu sammÄdiį¹į¹hiį¹ bhÄveti vivekanissitaį¹ virÄganissitaį¹ nirodhanissitaį¹ vossaggapariį¹Ämiį¹ ā¦peā¦ sammÄsamÄdhiį¹ bhÄveti vivekanissitaį¹ virÄganissitaį¹ nirodhanissitaį¹ vossaggapariį¹Ämiį¹. Itās when a mendicant develops right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right immersion, which rely on seclusion, fading away, and cessation, and ripen as letting go.
