Sekkhasutta A Trainee

Sāvatthinidānaį¹. At SāvatthÄ«.

Atha kho aƱƱataro bhikkhu yena bhagavā tenupasaį¹…kami ā€¦peā€¦ ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho so bhikkhu bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca: Then a mendicant went up to the Buddha ā€¦ and asked him,

ā€œā€˜sekkho, sekkhoā€™ti, bhante, vuccati. ā€œSir, they speak of this person called ā€˜a traineeā€™.

Kittāvatā nu kho, bhante, sekkho hotÄ«ā€ti? How is a trainee defined?ā€

ā€œIdha, bhikkhu, sekkhāya sammādiį¹­į¹­hiyā samannāgato hoti ā€¦peā€¦ sekkhena sammāsamādhinā samannāgato hoti. ā€œMendicant, itā€™s someone who has a traineeā€™s right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right immersion.

Ettāvatā kho, bhikkhu, sekkho hotÄ«ā€ti. Thatā€™s how a trainee is defined.ā€
