Atha kho aƱƱataro bhikkhu yena bhagavÄ tenupasaį¹
kami ā¦peā¦ ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho so bhikkhu bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca: Then a mendicant went up to the Buddha ā¦ and asked him,
āāsekkho, sekkhoāti, bhante, vuccati. āSir, they speak of this person called āa traineeā.
KittÄvatÄ nu kho, bhante, sekkho hotÄ«āti? How is a trainee defined?ā
āIdha, bhikkhu, sekkhÄya sammÄdiį¹į¹hiyÄ samannÄgato hoti ā¦peā¦ sekkhena sammÄsamÄdhinÄ samannÄgato hoti. āMendicant, itās someone who has a traineeās right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right immersion.
EttÄvatÄ kho, bhikkhu, sekkho hotÄ«āti. Thatās how a trainee is defined.ā
