āSÄmaƱƱaƱca vo, bhikkhave, desessÄmi, sÄmaƱƱaphalÄni ca. āMendicants, I will teach you the ascetic life and the fruits of the ascetic life.

KatamaƱca, bhikkhave, sÄmaƱƱaį¹? And what is the ascetic life?
Ayameva ariyo aį¹į¹haį¹
giko maggo, seyyathidaį¹āIt is simply this noble eightfold path, that is:
sammÄdiį¹į¹hi ā¦peā¦ sammÄsamÄdhi. right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right immersion.
Idaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, sÄmaƱƱaį¹. This is called the ascetic life.
KatamÄni ca, bhikkhave, sÄmaƱƱaphalÄni? And what are the fruits of the ascetic life?
SotÄpattiphalaį¹, sakadÄgÄmiphalaį¹, anÄgÄmiphalaį¹, arahattaphalaį¹āThe fruits of stream-entry, once-return, non-return, and perfection.
imÄni vuccanti, bhikkhave, sÄmaƱƱaphalÄnÄ«āti. These are called the fruits of the ascetic life.ā
