āSÄmaƱƱaƱca vo, bhikkhave, desessÄmi, sÄmaƱƱatthaƱca. āMendicants, I will teach you the ascetic life and the goal of the ascetic life.

KatamaƱca kho, bhikkhave, sÄmaƱƱaį¹? And what is the ascetic life?
Ayameva ariyo aį¹į¹haį¹
giko maggo, seyyathidaį¹āIt is simply this noble eightfold path, that is:
sammÄdiį¹į¹hi ā¦peā¦ sammÄsamÄdhi. right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right immersion.
Idaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, sÄmaƱƱaį¹. This is called the ascetic life.
Katamo ca, bhikkhave, sÄmaƱƱattho? And what is the goal of the ascetic life?
Yo kho, bhikkhave, rÄgakkhayo dosakkhayo mohakkhayoāThe ending of greed, hate, and delusion.
ayaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, sÄmaƱƱatthoāti. This is called the goal of the ascetic life.ā
