Chaį¹į¹hapācÄ«naninnasutta Sixth Discourse on Slanting East

ā€œSeyyathāpi, bhikkhave, yā kācimā mahānadiyo, seyyathidaį¹ā€”ā€œMendicants, all the great riversā€”that is,

gaį¹…gā, yamunā, aciravatÄ«, sarabhÅ«, mahÄ«, sabbā tā pācÄ«naninnā pācÄ«napoį¹‡Ä pācÄ«napabbhārā; the Ganges, Yamunā, AciravatÄ«, SarabhÅ«, and MahÄ«ā€”slant, slope, and incline towards the east.

evameva kho, bhikkhave, bhikkhu ariyaį¹ aį¹į¹haį¹…gikaį¹ maggaį¹ bhāvento ariyaį¹ aį¹į¹haį¹…gikaį¹ maggaį¹ bahulÄ«karonto nibbānaninno hoti nibbānapoį¹‡o nibbānapabbhāro. In the same way, a mendicant who develops and cultivates the noble eightfold path slants, slopes, and inclines to extinguishment.

KathaƱca, bhikkhave, bhikkhu ariyaį¹ aį¹į¹haį¹…gikaį¹ maggaį¹ bhāvento ariyaį¹ aį¹į¹haį¹…gikaį¹ maggaį¹ bahulÄ«karonto nibbānaninno hoti nibbānapoį¹‡o nibbānapabbhāro? And how does a mendicant who develops the noble eightfold path slant, slope, and incline to extinguishment?

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu sammādiį¹į¹hiį¹ bhāveti vivekanissitaį¹ ā€¦peā€¦ sammāsamādhiį¹ bhāveti vivekanissitaį¹ virāganissitaį¹ nirodhanissitaį¹ vossaggapariį¹‡Ämiį¹. Itā€™s when a mendicant develops right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right immersion, which rely on seclusion, fading away, and cessation, and ripen as letting go.

Evaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, bhikkhu ariyaį¹ aį¹į¹haį¹…gikaį¹ maggaį¹ bhāvento ariyaį¹ aį¹į¹haį¹…gikaį¹ maggaį¹ bahulÄ«karonto nibbānaninno hoti nibbānapoį¹‡o nibbānapabbhāroā€ti. Thatā€™s how a mendicant who develops and cultivates the noble eightfold path slants, slopes, and inclines to extinguishment.ā€
