ā€œSeyyathāpi, bhikkhave, kumbho nikkujjo vamateva udakaį¹, no paccāvamati; ā€œMendicants, suppose a pot full of water is tipped over, so the water drains out and doesnā€™t go back in.

evameva kho, bhikkhave, bhikkhu ariyaį¹ aį¹­į¹­haį¹…gikaį¹ maggaį¹ bhāvento ariyaį¹ aį¹­į¹­haį¹…gikaį¹ maggaį¹ bahulÄ«karonto vamateva pāpake akusale dhamme, no paccāvamati. In the same way, a mendicant who develops and cultivates the noble eightfold path expels bad, unskillful qualities and doesnā€™t let them back in.

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu sammādiį¹­į¹­hiį¹ bhāveti vivekanissitaį¹ virāganissitaį¹ nirodhanissitaį¹ vossaggapariį¹‡Ämiį¹ ā€¦peā€¦ sammāsamādhiį¹ bhāveti vivekanissitaį¹ virāganissitaį¹ nirodhanissitaį¹ vossaggapariį¹‡Ämiį¹ ā€¦ Itā€™s when a mendicant develops right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right immersion, which rely on seclusion, fading away, and cessation, and ripen as letting go.
