Vidhāsutta Discriminations

ā€œTisso imā, bhikkhave, vidhā. ā€œMendicants, there are three kinds of discrimination.

Katamā tisso? What three?

ā€˜SeyyohamasmÄ«ā€™ti vidhā, ā€˜sadisohamasmÄ«ā€™ti vidhā, ā€˜hÄ«nohamasmÄ«ā€™ti vidhāā€”One discriminates, thinking that ā€˜Iā€™m betterā€™ or ā€˜Iā€™m equalā€™ or ā€˜Iā€™m worseā€™.

imā kho, bhikkhave, tisso vidhā. These are the three kinds of discrimination.

Imāsaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, tissannaį¹ vidhānaį¹ abhiƱƱāya pariƱƱāya parikkhayāya pahānāya ariyo aį¹­į¹­haį¹…giko maggo bhāvetabbo. The noble eightfold path should be developed for the direct knowledge, complete understanding, finishing, and giving up of these three kinds of discrimination.

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu sammādiį¹­į¹­hiį¹ bhāveti ā€¦peā€¦ sammāsamādhiį¹ bhāveti vivekanissitaį¹ virāganissitaį¹ nirodhanissitaį¹ vossaggapariį¹‡Ämiį¹ ā€¦ Itā€™s when a mendicant develops right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right immersion, which rely on seclusion, fading away, and cessation, and ripen as letting go.

imāsaį¹ kho, bhikkhave tissannaį¹ vidhānaį¹ abhiƱƱāya pariƱƱāya parikkhayāya pahānāya ayaį¹ ariyo aį¹­į¹­haį¹…giko maggo bhāvetabboā€ti. This is the noble eightfold path that should be developed for the direct knowledge, complete understanding, finishing, and giving up of these three kinds of discrimination.ā€
