UpÄdÄnasutta Grasping
āCattÄrimÄni, bhikkhave, upÄdÄnÄni. āMendicants, there are these four kinds of grasping.
KatamÄni cattÄri? What four?
KÄmupÄdÄnaį¹, diį¹į¹hupÄdÄnaį¹, sÄ«labbatupÄdÄnaį¹, attavÄdupÄdÄnaį¹āGrasping at sensual pleasures, views, precepts and observances, and theories of a self.
imÄni kho, bhikkhave, cattÄri upÄdÄnÄni. These are the four kinds of grasping.
Imesaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, catunnaį¹ upÄdÄnÄnaį¹ abhiƱƱÄya pariƱƱÄya parikkhayÄya pahÄnÄya ā¦peā¦ ayaį¹ ariyo aį¹į¹haį¹
giko maggo bhÄvetabboāti. The noble eightfold path should be developed for the direct knowledge, complete understanding, finishing, and giving up of these four kinds of grasping.ā
