Upādānasutta Grasping

ā€œCattārimāni, bhikkhave, upādānāni. ā€œMendicants, there are these four kinds of grasping.

Katamāni cattāri? What four?

Kāmupādānaį¹, diį¹­į¹­hupādānaį¹, sÄ«labbatupādānaį¹, attavādupādānaį¹ā€”Grasping at sensual pleasures, views, precepts and observances, and theories of a self.

imāni kho, bhikkhave, cattāri upādānāni. These are the four kinds of grasping.

Imesaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, catunnaį¹ upādānānaį¹ abhiƱƱāya pariƱƱāya parikkhayāya pahānāya ā€¦peā€¦ ayaį¹ ariyo aį¹­į¹­haį¹…giko maggo bhāvetabboā€ti. The noble eightfold path should be developed for the direct knowledge, complete understanding, finishing, and giving up of these four kinds of grasping.ā€
