kami ā¦peā¦ ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho so bhikkhu bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca: Then a mendicant went up to the Buddha ā¦ and asked him,
āābojjhaį¹
gÄ, bojjhaį¹
gÄāti, bhante, vuccanti. āSir, they speak of the āawakening factorsā.
KittÄvatÄ nu kho, bhante, ābojjhaį¹
gÄāti vuccantÄ«āti? How are the awakening factors defined?ā
āBodhÄya saį¹vattantÄ«ti kho, bhikkhu, tasmÄ ābojjhaį¹
gÄāti vuccanti. āMendicant, theyāre called awakening factors because they lead to awakening.
Idha, bhikkhu, satisambojjhaį¹
gaį¹ bhÄveti vivekanissitaį¹ virÄganissitaį¹ nirodhanissitaį¹ vossaggapariį¹Ämiį¹ ā¦peā¦ A mendicant develops the awakening factors of mindfulness, investigation of principles, energy, rapture, tranquility, immersion,
upekkhÄsambojjhaį¹
gaį¹ bhÄveti vivekanissitaį¹ virÄganissitaį¹ nirodhanissitaį¹ vossaggapariį¹Ämiį¹. and equanimity, which rely on seclusion, fading away, and cessation, and ripen as letting go.
Tassime satta bojjhaį¹
ge bhÄvayato kÄmÄsavÄpi cittaį¹ vimuccati, bhavÄsavÄpi cittaį¹ vimuccati, avijjÄsavÄpi cittaį¹ vimuccati. As they develop the seven awakening factors, their mind is freed from the defilements of sensuality, desire to be reborn, and ignorance.
Vimuttasmiį¹ vimuttamiti ƱÄį¹aį¹ hoti. When theyāre freed, they know theyāre freed.
āKhÄ«į¹Ä jÄti, vusitaį¹ brahmacariyaį¹, kataį¹ karaį¹Ä«yaį¹, nÄparaį¹ itthattÄyÄāti pajÄnÄti. They understand: āRebirth is ended, the spiritual journey has been completed, what had to be done has been done, there is nothing further for this place.ā
BodhÄya saį¹vattantÄ«ti, bhikkhu, tasmÄ ābojjhaį¹
