Dutiyasūriyūpamasutta The Simile of the Sun (2nd)

ā€œSÅ«riyassa, bhikkhave, udayato etaį¹ pubbaį¹…gamaį¹ etaį¹ pubbanimittaį¹, yadidaį¹ā€”aruį¹‡uggaį¹; ā€œMendicants, the dawn is the forerunner and precursor of the sunrise.

evameva kho, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno sattannaį¹ bojjhaį¹…gānaį¹ uppādāya etaį¹ pubbaį¹…gamaį¹ etaį¹ pubbanimittaį¹, yadidaį¹ā€”yonisomanasikāro. In the same way, for a mendicant rational application of mind is the forerunner and precursor of the arising of the seven awakening factors.

Yonisomanasikārasampannassetaį¹, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno pāį¹­ikaį¹…khaį¹ā€”satta bojjhaį¹…ge bhāvessati, satta bojjhaį¹…ge bahulÄ«karissati. A mendicant accomplished in rational application of mind can expect to develop and cultivate the seven awakening factors.

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu satisambojjhaį¹…gaį¹ bhāveti vivekanissitaį¹ ā€¦peā€¦ Itā€™s when a mendicant develops the awakening factors of mindfulness, investigation of principles, energy, rapture, tranquility, immersion,

upekkhāsambojjhaį¹…gaį¹ bhāveti vivekanissitaį¹ virāganissitaį¹ nirodhanissitaį¹ vossaggapariį¹‡Ämiį¹. and equanimity, which rely on seclusion, fading away, and cessation, and ripen as letting go.

Evaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, bhikkhu yonisomanasikārasampanno satta bojjhaį¹…ge bhāveti, satta bojjhaį¹…ge bahulÄ«karotÄ«ā€ti. Thatā€™s how a mendicant with rational application of mind develops and cultivates the seven awakening factors.ā€
