Bodhāyasutta To Awakening

Atha kho aƱƱataro bhikkhu yena bhagavā tenupasaį¹…kami ā€¦peā€¦ ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho so bhikkhu bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca: Then a mendicant went up to the Buddha ā€¦ and said to him:

ā€œā€˜Bojjhaį¹…gā, bojjhaį¹…gāā€™ti, bhante, vuccanti. ā€œSir, they speak of the ā€˜awakening factorsā€™.

Kittāvatā nu kho, bhante, ā€˜bojjhaį¹…gāā€™ti vuccantÄ«ā€ti? How are the awakening factors defined?ā€

ā€œā€˜Bodhāya saį¹vattantÄ«ā€™ti kho, bhikkhu, tasmā bojjhaį¹…gāti vuccanti. ā€œMendicant, theyā€™re called awakening factors because they lead to awakening.

Idha, bhikkhu, satisambojjhaį¹…gaį¹ bhāveti vivekanissitaį¹ ā€¦peā€¦ A mendicant develops the awakening factors of mindfulness, investigation of principles, energy, rapture, tranquility, immersion,

upekkhāsambojjhaį¹…gaį¹ bhāveti vivekanissitaį¹ virāganissitaį¹ nirodhanissitaį¹ vossaggapariį¹‡Ämiį¹. and equanimity, which rely on seclusion, fading away, and cessation, and ripen as letting go.

ā€˜Bodhāya saį¹vattantÄ«ā€™ti kho, bhikkhu, tasmā ā€˜bojjhaį¹…gāā€™ti vuccantÄ«ā€ti. Theyā€™re called awakening factors because they lead to awakening.ā€
