AƱƱāsutta Enlightenment

ā€œCattārome, bhikkhave, satipaį¹­į¹­hānā. ā€œMendicants, there are these four kinds of mindfulness meditation.

Katame cattāro? What four?

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu kāye kāyānupassÄ« viharati ātāpÄ« sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaį¹; Itā€™s when a mendicant meditates by observing an aspect of the bodyā€”keen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world.

dhammesu dhammānupassÄ« viharati ātāpÄ« sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaį¹. principlesā€”keen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world.

Ime kho, bhikkhave, cattāro satipaį¹­į¹­hānā. These are the four kinds of mindfulness meditation.

Imesaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, catunnaį¹ satipaį¹­į¹­hānānaį¹ bhāvitattā bahulÄ«katattā dvinnaį¹ phalānaį¹ aƱƱataraį¹ phalaį¹ pāį¹­ikaį¹…khaį¹ā€”Because of developing and cultivating these four kinds of mindfulness meditation, one of two results can be expected:

diį¹­į¹­heva dhamme aƱƱā, sati vā upādisese anāgāmitāā€ti. enlightenment in this very life, or if thereā€™s something left over, non-return.ā€
