PariƱƱātasutta Complete Understanding

ā€œCattārome, bhikkhave, satipaį¹­į¹­hānā. ā€œMendicants, there are these four kinds of mindfulness meditation.

Katame cattāro? What four?

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu kāye kāyānupassÄ« viharati ātāpÄ« sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaį¹. Itā€™s when a mendicant meditates by observing an aspect of the bodyā€”keen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world.

Tassa kāye kāyānupassino viharato kāyo pariƱƱāto hoti. As they do so they completely understand the body.

Kāyassa pariƱƱātattā amataį¹ sacchikataį¹ hoti. When the body is completely understood they realize freedom from death.

Vedanāsu vedanānupassÄ« viharati ātāpÄ« sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaį¹. They meditate observing an aspect of feelingsā€”keen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world.

Tassa vedanāsu vedanānupassino viharato vedanā pariƱƱātā honti. As they do so they completely understand feelings.

Vedanānaį¹ pariƱƱātattā amataį¹ sacchikataį¹ hoti. When feelings are completely understood they realize freedom from death.

Citte cittānupassÄ« viharati ātāpÄ« sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaį¹. They meditate observing an aspect of the mindā€”keen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world.

Tassa citte cittānupassino viharato cittaį¹ pariƱƱātaį¹ hoti. As they do so they completely understand the mind.

Cittassa pariƱƱātattā amataį¹ sacchikataį¹ hoti. When the mind is completely understood they realize freedom from death.

Dhammesu dhammānupassÄ« viharati ātāpÄ« sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaį¹. They meditate observing an aspect of principlesā€”keen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world.

Tassa dhammesu dhammānupassino viharato dhammā pariƱƱātā honti. As they do so they completely understand principles.

Dhammānaį¹ pariƱƱātattā amataį¹ sacchikataį¹ hotÄ«ā€ti. When principles are completely understood they realize freedom from death.ā€
