PariƱƱÄtasutta Complete Understanding
āCattÄrome, bhikkhave, satipaį¹į¹hÄnÄ. āMendicants, there are these four kinds of mindfulness meditation.
Katame cattÄro? What four?
Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu kÄye kÄyÄnupassÄ« viharati ÄtÄpÄ« sampajÄno satimÄ, vineyya loke abhijjhÄdomanassaį¹. Itās when a mendicant meditates by observing an aspect of the bodyākeen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world.
Tassa kÄye kÄyÄnupassino viharato kÄyo pariƱƱÄto hoti. As they do so they completely understand the body.
KÄyassa pariƱƱÄtattÄ amataį¹ sacchikataį¹ hoti. When the body is completely understood they realize freedom from death.
VedanÄsu vedanÄnupassÄ« viharati ÄtÄpÄ« sampajÄno satimÄ, vineyya loke abhijjhÄdomanassaį¹. They meditate observing an aspect of feelingsākeen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world.
Tassa vedanÄsu vedanÄnupassino viharato vedanÄ pariƱƱÄtÄ honti. As they do so they completely understand feelings.
VedanÄnaį¹ pariƱƱÄtattÄ amataį¹ sacchikataį¹ hoti. When feelings are completely understood they realize freedom from death.
Citte cittÄnupassÄ« viharati ÄtÄpÄ« sampajÄno satimÄ, vineyya loke abhijjhÄdomanassaį¹. They meditate observing an aspect of the mindākeen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world.
Tassa citte cittÄnupassino viharato cittaį¹ pariƱƱÄtaį¹ hoti. As they do so they completely understand the mind.
Cittassa pariƱƱÄtattÄ amataį¹ sacchikataį¹ hoti. When the mind is completely understood they realize freedom from death.
Dhammesu dhammÄnupassÄ« viharati ÄtÄpÄ« sampajÄno satimÄ, vineyya loke abhijjhÄdomanassaį¹. They meditate observing an aspect of principlesākeen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world.
Tassa dhammesu dhammÄnupassino viharato dhammÄ pariƱƱÄtÄ honti. As they do so they completely understand principles.
DhammÄnaį¹ pariƱƱÄtattÄ amataį¹ sacchikataį¹ hotÄ«āti. When principles are completely understood they realize freedom from death.ā
