Samudayasutta Origin

ā€œCatunnaį¹, bhikkhave, satipaį¹­į¹­hānānaį¹ samudayaƱca atthaį¹…gamaƱca desessāmi. ā€œMendicants, I will teach you the origin and the ending of the four kinds of mindfulness meditation.

Ko ca, bhikkhave, kāyassa samudayo? And what is the origin of the body?

Āhārasamudayā kāyassa samudayo; The body originates from food.

āhāranirodhā kāyassa atthaį¹…gamo. When food ceases, the body ends.

Phassasamudayā vedanānaį¹ samudayo; Feelings originate from contact.

phassanirodhā vedanānaį¹ atthaį¹…gamo. When contact ceases, feelings end.

Nāmarūpasamudayā cittassa samudayo; The mind originates from name and form.

nāmarÅ«panirodhā cittassa atthaį¹…gamo. When name and form cease, the mind ends.

Manasikārasamudayā dhammānaį¹ samudayo; Principles originate from application of mind.

manasikāranirodhā dhammānaį¹ atthaį¹…gamoā€ti. When application of mind ends, principles end.ā€
