Samudayasutta Origin
āCatunnaį¹, bhikkhave, satipaį¹į¹hÄnÄnaį¹ samudayaƱca atthaį¹
gamaƱca desessÄmi. āMendicants, I will teach you the origin and the ending of the four kinds of mindfulness meditation.

Ko ca, bhikkhave, kÄyassa samudayo? And what is the origin of the body?
ÄhÄrasamudayÄ kÄyassa samudayo; The body originates from food.
ÄhÄranirodhÄ kÄyassa atthaį¹
gamo. When food ceases, the body ends.
PhassasamudayÄ vedanÄnaį¹ samudayo; Feelings originate from contact.
phassanirodhÄ vedanÄnaį¹ atthaį¹
gamo. When contact ceases, feelings end.
NÄmarÅ«pasamudayÄ cittassa samudayo; The mind originates from name and form.
nÄmarÅ«panirodhÄ cittassa atthaį¹
gamo. When name and form cease, the mind ends.
ManasikÄrasamudayÄ dhammÄnaį¹ samudayo; Principles originate from application of mind.
manasikÄranirodhÄ dhammÄnaį¹ atthaį¹
gamoāti. When application of mind ends, principles end.ā
