Äsavakkhayasutta The Ending of Defilements
āPaƱcimÄni, bhikkhave, indriyÄni. āMendicants, there are these five faculties.
KatamÄni paƱca? What five?
Saddhindriyaį¹ ā¦peā¦ paƱƱindriyaį¹āThe faculties of faith, energy, mindfulness, immersion, and wisdom.
imÄni kho, bhikkhave, paƱcindriyÄni. These are the five faculties.
Imesaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, paƱcannaį¹ indriyÄnaį¹ bhÄvitattÄ bahulÄ«katattÄ bhikkhu ÄsavÄnaį¹ khayÄ anÄsavaį¹ cetovimuttiį¹ paƱƱÄvimuttiį¹ diį¹į¹heva dhamme sayaį¹ abhiĆ±Ć±Ä sacchikatvÄ upasampajja viharatÄ«āti. Itās because of developing and cultivating these five faculties that a mendicant realizes the undefiled freedom of heart and freedom by wisdom in this very life. And they live having realized it with their own insight due to the ending of defilements.ā
