Paį¹hamasamaį¹abrÄhmaį¹asutta Ascetics and Brahmins (1st)
āChayimÄni, bhikkhave, indriyÄni. āMendicants, there are these six faculties.
KatamÄni cha? What six?
Cakkhundriyaį¹, sotindriyaį¹, ghÄnindriyaį¹, jivhindriyaį¹, kÄyindriyaį¹, manindriyaį¹. The faculties of the eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind.
Ye hi keci, bhikkhave, samaį¹Ä vÄ brÄhmaį¹Ä vÄ imesaį¹ channaį¹ indriyÄnaį¹ samudayaƱca atthaį¹
gamaƱca assÄdaƱca ÄdÄ«navaƱca nissaraį¹aƱca yathÄbhÅ«taį¹ nappajÄnanti, There are ascetics and brahmins who donāt truly understand the origin, ending, gratification, drawback, and escape when it comes to these six faculties.
na me te, bhikkhave, samaį¹Ä vÄ brÄhmaį¹Ä vÄ samaį¹esu vÄ samaį¹asammatÄ brÄhmaį¹esu vÄ brÄhmaį¹asammatÄ, na ca panete Äyasmanto sÄmaƱƱatthaį¹ vÄ brahmaƱƱatthaį¹ vÄ diį¹į¹heva dhamme sayaį¹ abhiĆ±Ć±Ä sacchikatvÄ upasampajja viharanti. I donāt deem them as true ascetics and brahmins. Those venerables donāt realize the goal of life as an ascetic or brahmin, and donāt live having realized it with their own insight.

gamaƱca assÄdaƱca ÄdÄ«navaƱca nissaraį¹aƱca yathÄbhÅ«taį¹ pajÄnanti, There are ascetics and brahmins who do truly understand the origin, ending, gratification, drawback, and escape when it comes to these six faculties.
te kho me, bhikkhave, samaį¹Ä vÄ brÄhmaį¹Ä vÄ samaį¹esu ceva samaį¹asammatÄ brÄhmaį¹esu ca brÄhmaį¹asammatÄ, te ca panÄyasmanto sÄmaƱƱatthaƱca brahmaƱƱatthaƱca diį¹į¹heva dhamme sayaį¹ abhiĆ±Ć±Ä sacchikatvÄ upasampajja viharantÄ«āti.
