ā€œKatinaį¹ nu kho, bhikkhave, indriyānaį¹ bhāvitattā bahulÄ«katattā khÄ«į¹‡Äsavo bhikkhu aƱƱaį¹ byākaroti: ā€œMendicants, how many faculties must a mendicant develop and cultivate so that they can declare enlightenment:

ā€˜khÄ«į¹‡Ä jāti, vusitaį¹ brahmacariyaį¹, kataį¹ karaį¹‡Ä«yaį¹, nāparaį¹ itthattāyāā€™ti pajānāmÄ«ā€ti? ā€˜I understand: ā€œRebirth is ended, the spiritual journey has been completed, what had to be done has been done, there is nothing further for this placeā€ā€™?ā€

ā€œBhagavaį¹mÅ«lakā no, bhante, dhammā ā€¦peā€¦ ā€œOur teachings are rooted in the Buddha. ā€¦ā€

ā€œdvinnaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, indriyānaį¹ bhāvitattā bahulÄ«katattā khÄ«į¹‡Äsavo bhikkhu aƱƱaį¹ byākaroti: ā€œA mendicant must develop and cultivate two faculties so that they can declare enlightenment.

ā€˜khÄ«į¹‡Ä jāti, vusitaį¹ brahmacariyaį¹, kataį¹ karaį¹‡Ä«yaį¹, nāparaį¹ itthattāyāā€™ti pajānāmÄ«ti.

Katamesaį¹ dvinnaį¹? What two?

Ariyāya ca paƱƱāya, ariyāya ca vimuttiyā. Noble wisdom and noble freedom.

Yā hissa, bhikkhave, ariyā paƱƱā tadassa paƱƱindriyaį¹. For their noble wisdom is the faculty of wisdom.

Yā hissa, bhikkhave, ariyā vimutti tadassa samādhindriyaį¹. And their noble freedom is the faculty of immersion.

Imesaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, dvinnaį¹ indriyānaį¹ bhāvitattā bahulÄ«katattā khÄ«į¹‡Äsavo bhikkhu aƱƱaį¹ byākaroti: These are the two faculties that a mendicant must develop and cultivate so that they can declare enlightenment:

ā€˜khÄ«į¹‡Ä jāti, vusitaį¹ brahmacariyaį¹, kataį¹ karaį¹‡Ä«yaį¹, nāparaį¹ itthattāyāā€™ti pajānāmÄ«ā€ti. ā€˜I understand: ā€œRebirth is ended, the spiritual journey has been completed, what had to be done has been done, there is nothing further for this placeā€ā€™.ā€
