SÅ«karakhatasutta The Boarās Cave
Ekaį¹ samayaį¹ bhagavÄ rÄjagahe viharati gijjhakÅ«į¹e pabbate sÅ«karakhatÄyaį¹. At one time the Buddha was staying near RÄjagaha, on the Vultureās Peak Mountain in the Boarās Cave.
Tatra kho bhagavÄ Äyasmantaį¹ sÄriputtaį¹ Ämantesi: Then the Buddha said to Venerable SÄriputta:
ākiį¹ nu kho, sÄriputta, atthavasaį¹ sampassamÄno khÄ«į¹Äsavo bhikkhu tathÄgate vÄ tathÄgatasÄsane vÄ paramanipaccakÄraį¹ pavattamÄno pavattatÄ«āti? āSÄriputta, considering what benefit does a mendicant with defilements ended, while still alive, continue to show utmost devotion for the Realized One or his instructions?ā
āAnuttaraƱhi, bhante, yogakkhemaį¹ sampassamÄno khÄ«į¹Äsavo bhikkhu tathÄgate vÄ tathÄgatasÄsane vÄ paramanipaccakÄraį¹ pavattamÄno pavattatÄ«āti. āSir, it is considering the supreme sanctuary from the yoke that a mendicant with defilements ended, while still alive, continues to show utmost devotion for the Realized One or his instructions.ā
āSÄdhu sÄdhu, sÄriputta. āGood, good, SÄriputta!
AnuttaraƱhi, sÄriputta, yogakkhemaį¹ sampassamÄno khÄ«į¹Äsavo bhikkhu tathÄgate vÄ tathÄgatasÄsane vÄ paramanipaccakÄraį¹ pavattamÄno pavattati. For it is considering the supreme sanctuary from the yoke that a mendicant whose defilements are ended, while still alive, continues to show utmost devotion for the Realized One or his instructions.
Katamo ca, sÄriputta, anuttaro yogakkhemo yaį¹ sampassamÄno khÄ«į¹Äsavo bhikkhu tathÄgate vÄ tathÄgatasÄsane vÄ paramanipaccakÄraį¹ pavattamÄno pavattatÄ«āti? And what is that supreme sanctuary from the yoke?ā
āIdha, bhante, khÄ«į¹Äsavo bhikkhu saddhindriyaį¹ bhÄveti upasamagÄmiį¹ sambodhagÄmiį¹, āItās when a mendicant with defilements ended develops the faculties of faith,
vÄ«riyindriyaį¹ bhÄveti ā¦peā¦ energy,
satindriyaį¹ bhÄveti ā¦ mindfulness,
samÄdhindriyaį¹ bhÄveti ā¦ immersion,
paƱƱindriyaį¹ bhÄveti upasamagÄmiį¹ sambodhagÄmiį¹. and wisdom, which lead to peace and awakening.
Ayaį¹ kho, bhante, anuttaro yogakkhemo yaį¹ sampassamÄno khÄ«į¹Äsavo bhikkhu tathÄgate vÄ tathÄgatasÄsane vÄ paramanipaccakÄraį¹ pavattamÄno pavattatÄ«āti. It is considering this supreme sanctuary from the yoke that a mendicant with defilements ended, while still alive, continues to show utmost devotion for the Realized One or his instructions.ā

ghe sagÄravo viharati sappatisso, sikkhÄya sagÄravo viharati sappatisso, samÄdhismiį¹ sagÄravo viharati sappatisso. āItās when a mendicant with defilements ended maintains respect and reverence for the Teacher, the teaching, the Saį¹
gha, the training, and immersion.
Ayaį¹ kho, bhante, paramanipaccakÄro yaį¹ khÄ«į¹Äsavo bhikkhu tathÄgate vÄ tathÄgatasÄsane vÄ paramanipaccakÄraį¹ pavattamÄno pavattatÄ«āti. This is that utmost devotion.ā
