Oghādisutta Floods, etc.

ā€œPaƱcimāni, bhikkhave, uddhambhāgiyāni saį¹yojanāni. ā€œMendicants, there are five higher fetters.

Katamāni paƱca? What five?

RÅ«parāgo, arÅ«parāgo, māno, uddhaccaį¹, avijjāā€”Desire for rebirth in the realm of luminous form, desire for rebirth in the formless realm, conceit, restlessness, and ignorance.

imāni kho, bhikkhave, paƱcuddhambhāgiyāni saį¹yojanāni. These are the five higher fetters.

Imesaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, paƱcannaį¹ uddhambhāgiyānaį¹ saį¹yojanānaį¹ abhiƱƱāya pariƱƱāya parikkhayāya pahānāya paƱcindriyāni bhāvetabbāni. The five faculties should be developed for the direct knowledge, complete understanding, finishing, and giving up of these five higher fetters.

Katamāni paƱca? What five?

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu saddhindriyaį¹ bhāveti vivekanissitaį¹ virāganissitaį¹ nirodhanissitaį¹ vossaggapariį¹‡Ämiį¹ ā€¦peā€¦ paƱƱindriyaį¹ bhāveti vivekanissitaį¹ virāganissitaį¹ nirodhanissitaį¹ vossaggapariį¹‡Ämiį¹. Itā€™s when a mendicant develops the faculties of faith, energy, mindfulness, immersion, and wisdom, which rely on seclusion, fading away, and cessation, and ripen as letting go.

Imesaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, paƱcannaį¹ uddhambhāgiyānaį¹ saį¹yojanānaį¹ abhiƱƱāya pariƱƱāya parikkhayāya pahānāya imāni paƱcindriyāni bhāvetabbānÄ«ā€ti. These five faculties should be developed for the direct knowledge, complete understanding, finishing, and giving up of these five higher fetters.ā€

ganthā anusayena ca; ties, and underlying tendencies,

Kāmaguį¹‡Ä nÄ«varaį¹‡Ä, kinds of sensual stimulation, hindrances,

khandhā oruddhambhāgiyāti. aggregates, and fetters high and low.
