Pācīnādisutta Sloping East, Etc.

ā€œSeyyathāpi, bhikkhave, gaį¹…gā nadÄ« pācÄ«naninnā pācÄ«napoį¹‡Ä pācÄ«napabbhārā; ā€œMendicants, the Ganges river slants, slopes, and inclines to the east.

evameva kho, bhikkhave, bhikkhu paƱca balāni bhāvento paƱca balāni bahulÄ«karonto nibbānaninno hoti nibbānapoį¹‡o nibbānapabbhāro. In the same way, a mendicant who develops and cultivates the five powers slants, slopes, and inclines to extinguishment.

KathaƱca, bhikkhave, bhikkhu paƱca balāni bhāvento paƱca balāni bahulÄ«karonto nibbānaninno hoti nibbānapoį¹‡o nibbānapabbhāro? And how does a mendicant who develops the five powers slant, slope, and incline to extinguishment?

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu, saddhābalaį¹ bhāveti rāgavinayapariyosānaį¹ dosavinayapariyosānaį¹ mohavinayapariyosānaį¹ ā€¦ Itā€™s when a mendicant develops the powers of faith, energy, mindfulness, immersion, and wisdom, which culminate in the removal of greed, hate, and delusion.

evaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, bhikkhu paƱca balāni bhāvento paƱca balāni bahulÄ«karonto nibbānaninno hoti nibbānapoį¹‡o nibbānapabbhāroā€ti. Thatā€™s how a mendicant who develops and cultivates the five powers slants, slopes, and inclines to extinguishment.ā€

cha ninnā ca samuddato; and six on slanting to the ocean;

Dvete cha dvādasa honti, these two sixes make twelve,

vaggo tena pavuccatÄ«ti. and thatā€™s how this chapter is recited.
