ā€œPaƱcimāni, bhikkhave, uddhambhāgiyāni saį¹yojanāni. ā€œMendicants, there are five higher fetters.

Katamāni paƱca? What five?

RÅ«parāgo, arÅ«parāgo, māno, uddhaccaį¹ avijjāā€”Desire for rebirth in the realm of luminous form, desire for rebirth in the formless realm, conceit, restlessness, and ignorance.

imāni kho, bhikkhave, paƱcuddhambhāgiyāni saį¹yojanāni. These are the five higher fetters.

Imesaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, paƱcannaį¹ uddhambhāgiyānaį¹ saį¹yojanānaį¹ abhiƱƱāya pariƱƱāya parikkhayāya pahānāya paƱca balāni bhāvetabbāni. The five powers should be developed for the direct knowledge, complete understanding, finishing, and giving up of these five higher fetters.

Katamāni paƱca? What five?

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu saddhābalaį¹ bhāveti ā€¦peā€¦ paƱƱābalaį¹ bhāveti rāgavinayapariyosānaį¹ dosavinayapariyosānaį¹ mohavinayapariyosānaį¹. A mendicant develops the powers of faith, energy, mindfulness, immersion, and wisdom, which culminate in the removal of greed, hate, and delusion.

Imesaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, paƱcannaį¹ uddhambhāgiyānaį¹ saį¹yojanānaį¹ abhiƱƱāya pariƱƱāya parikkhayāya pahānāya imāni paƱca balāni bhāvetabbānÄ«ā€ti. These five powers should be developed for the direct knowledge, complete understanding, finishing, and giving up of these five higher fetters.ā€

Ogho yogo upādānaį¹, Floods, yokes, grasping,

ganthā anusayena ca; ties, and underlying tendencies,

khandhā oruddhambhāgiyāti. aggregates, and fetters high and low.
