āPaƱcimÄni, bhikkhave, uddhambhÄgiyÄni saį¹yojanÄni. āMendicants, there are five higher fetters.
KatamÄni paƱca? What five?
RÅ«parÄgo, arÅ«parÄgo, mÄno, uddhaccaį¹ avijjÄāDesire for rebirth in the realm of luminous form, desire for rebirth in the formless realm, conceit, restlessness, and ignorance.
imÄni kho, bhikkhave, paƱcuddhambhÄgiyÄni saį¹yojanÄni. These are the five higher fetters.
Imesaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, paƱcannaį¹ uddhambhÄgiyÄnaį¹ saį¹yojanÄnaį¹ abhiƱƱÄya pariƱƱÄya parikkhayÄya pahÄnÄya paƱca balÄni bhÄvetabbÄni. The five powers should be developed for the direct knowledge, complete understanding, finishing, and giving up of these five higher fetters.

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu saddhÄbalaį¹ bhÄveti ā¦peā¦ paƱƱÄbalaį¹ bhÄveti rÄgavinayapariyosÄnaį¹ dosavinayapariyosÄnaį¹ mohavinayapariyosÄnaį¹. A mendicant develops the powers of faith, energy, mindfulness, immersion, and wisdom, which culminate in the removal of greed, hate, and delusion.
Imesaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, paƱcannaį¹ uddhambhÄgiyÄnaį¹ saį¹yojanÄnaį¹ abhiƱƱÄya pariƱƱÄya parikkhayÄya pahÄnÄya imÄni paƱca balÄni bhÄvetabbÄnÄ«āti. These five powers should be developed for the direct knowledge, complete understanding, finishing, and giving up of these five higher fetters.ā
