AmbapÄlivanasutta In AmbapÄlÄ«ās Mango Grove
Ekaį¹ samayaį¹ ÄyasmÄ ca anuruddho ÄyasmÄ ca sÄriputto vesÄliyaį¹ viharanti ambapÄlivane. At one time the venerables Anuruddha and SÄriputta were staying near VesÄlÄ«, in AmbapÄlÄ«ās Mango Grove.
Atha kho ÄyasmÄ sÄriputto sÄyanhasamayaį¹ paį¹isallÄnÄ vuį¹į¹hito ā¦peā¦ ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho ÄyasmÄ sÄriputto Äyasmantaį¹ anuruddhaį¹ etadavoca: Then in the late afternoon, SÄriputta came out of retreat, went to Anuruddha, and said to him:
āVippasannÄni kho te, Ävuso anuruddha, indriyÄni, parisuddho mukhavaį¹į¹o pariyodÄto. āReverend Anuruddha, your faculties are so very clear, and your complexion is pure and bright.
KatamenÄyasmÄ anuruddho vihÄrena etarahi bahulaį¹ viharatÄ«āti? What kind of meditation are you usually practicing these days?ā
āCatÅ«su khvÄhaį¹, Ävuso, satipaį¹į¹hÄnesu suppatiį¹į¹hitacitto etarahi bahulaį¹ viharÄmi. āThese days, reverend, I usually meditate with my mind firmly established in the four kinds of mindfulness meditation.

dhammesu dhammÄnupassÄ« viharÄmi ÄtÄpÄ« sampajÄno satimÄ, vineyya loke abhijjhÄdomanassaį¹āprinciplesākeen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world.
imesu khvÄhaį¹, Ävuso, catÅ«su satipaį¹į¹hÄnesu suppatiį¹į¹hitacitto etarahi bahulaį¹ viharÄmi. These days I usually meditate with my mind firmly established in these four kinds of mindfulness meditation.
Yo so, Ävuso, bhikkhu arahaį¹ khÄ«į¹Äsavo vusitavÄ katakaraį¹Ä«yo ohitabhÄro anuppattasadattho parikkhÄ«į¹abhavasaį¹yojano sammadaƱƱÄvimutto, so imesu catÅ«su satipaį¹į¹hÄnesu suppatiį¹į¹hitacitto bahulaį¹ viharatÄ«āti. A mendicant who is perfectedāwith defilements ended, who has completed the spiritual journey, done what had to be done, laid down the burden, achieved their own true goal, utterly ended the fetter of continued existence, and is rightly freed through enlightenmentāusually meditates with their mind firmly established in these four kinds of mindfulness meditation.ā

Ye mayaį¹ Äyasmato anuruddhassa sammukhÄva assumha Äsabhiį¹ vÄcaį¹ bhÄsamÄnassÄāti. to have heard such a dramatic statement in the presence of Venerable Anuruddha.ā
