āPaƱcimÄni, bhikkhave, uddhambhÄgiyÄni saį¹yojanÄni. āMendicants, there are five higher fetters.
KatamÄni paƱca? What five?
RÅ«parÄgo, arÅ«parÄgo, mÄno, uddhaccaį¹, avijjÄāDesire for rebirth in the realm of luminous form, desire for rebirth in the formless realm, conceit, restlessness, and ignorance.
imÄni kho, bhikkhave, paƱcuddhambhÄgiyÄni saį¹yojanÄni. These are the five higher fetters.
Imesaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, paƱcannaį¹ uddhambhÄgiyÄnaį¹ saį¹yojanÄnaį¹ abhiƱƱÄya pariƱƱÄya parikkhayÄya pahÄnÄya cattÄro jhÄnÄ bhÄvetabbÄ. The four absorptions should be developed for the direct knowledge, complete understanding, finishing, and giving up of these five higher fetters.

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu vivicceva kÄmehi vivicca akusalehi dhammehi savitakkaį¹ savicÄraį¹ vivekajaį¹ pÄ«tisukhaį¹ paį¹hamaį¹ jhÄnaį¹ upasampajja viharati. Itās when a mendicant, quite secluded from sensual pleasures, secluded from unskillful qualities, enters and remains in the first absorption, which has the rapture and bliss born of seclusion, while placing the mind and keeping it connected.
