Vitakkasutta Thoughts
āMÄ, bhikkhave, pÄpake akusale vitakke vitakkeyyÄtha, seyyathidaį¹āāMendicants, donāt think bad, unskillful thoughts, such as
kÄmavitakkaį¹, byÄpÄdavitakkaį¹, vihiį¹sÄvitakkaį¹. sensual, malicious, and cruel thoughts.
Taį¹ kissa hetu? Why is that?
Nete, bhikkhave, vitakkÄ atthasaį¹hitÄ nÄdibrahmacariyakÄ na nibbidÄya na virÄgÄya na nirodhÄya na upasamÄya na abhiƱƱÄya na sambodhÄya na nibbÄnÄya saį¹vattanti. Because those thoughts arenāt beneficial or relevant to the fundamentals of the spiritual life. They donāt lead to disillusionment, dispassion, cessation, peace, insight, awakening, and extinguishment.
VitakkentÄ ca kho tumhe, bhikkhave, āidaį¹ dukkhanāti vitakkeyyÄtha, āayaį¹ dukkhasamudayoāti vitakkeyyÄtha, āayaį¹ dukkhanirodhoāti vitakkeyyÄtha, āayaį¹ dukkhanirodhagÄminÄ« paį¹ipadÄāti vitakkeyyÄtha. When you think, you should think: āThis is sufferingā ā¦ āThis is the origin of sufferingā ā¦ āThis is the cessation of sufferingā ā¦ āThis is the practice that leads to the cessation of sufferingā.

Ete, bhikkhave, vitakkÄ atthasaį¹hitÄ ete ÄdibrahmacariyakÄ ete nibbidÄya virÄgÄya nirodhÄya upasamÄya abhiƱƱÄya sambodhÄya nibbÄnÄya saį¹vattanti.
