Cintasutta Thought

ā€œMā, bhikkhave, pāpakaį¹ akusalaį¹ cittaį¹ cinteyyātha: ā€œMendicants, donā€™t think up a bad, unskillful idea.

ā€˜sassato lokoā€™ti vā ā€˜asassato lokoā€™ti vā, ā€˜antavā lokoā€™ti vā ā€˜anantavā lokoā€™ti vā, ā€˜taį¹ jÄ«vaį¹ taį¹ sarÄ«ranā€™ti vā ā€˜aƱƱaį¹ jÄ«vaį¹ aƱƱaį¹ sarÄ«ranā€™ti vā, ā€˜hoti tathāgato paraį¹ maraį¹‡Äā€™ti vā ā€˜na hoti tathāgato paraį¹ maraį¹‡Äā€™ti vā, ā€˜hoti ca na ca hoti tathāgato paraį¹ maraį¹‡Äā€™ti vā, ā€˜neva hoti na na hoti tathāgato paraį¹ maraį¹‡Äā€™ti vā. For example: the cosmos is eternal, or not eternal, or finite, or infinite; the soul and the body are the same thing, or they are different things; after death, a realized one still exists, or no longer exists, or both still exists and no longer exists, or neither still exists nor no longer exists.

Taį¹ kissa hetu? Why is that?

Nesā, bhikkhave, cintā atthasaį¹hitā nādibrahmacariyakā na nibbidāya na virāgāya na nirodhāya na upasamāya na abhiƱƱāya na sambodhāya na nibbānāya saį¹vattati. Because those thoughts arenā€™t beneficial or relevant to the fundamentals of the spiritual life. They donā€™t lead to disillusionment, dispassion, cessation, peace, insight, awakening, and extinguishment.

Cintentā ca kho tumhe, bhikkhave, ā€˜idaį¹ dukkhanā€™ti cinteyyātha, ā€˜ayaį¹ dukkhasamudayoā€™ti cinteyyātha, ā€˜ayaį¹ dukkhanirodhoā€™ti cinteyyātha, ā€˜ayaį¹ dukkhanirodhagāminÄ« paį¹ipadāā€™ti cinteyyātha. When you think something up, you should think: ā€˜This is sufferingā€™ ā€¦ ā€˜This is the origin of sufferingā€™ ā€¦ ā€˜This is the cessation of sufferingā€™ ā€¦ ā€˜This is the practice that leads to the cessation of sufferingā€™.

Taį¹ kissa hetu? Why is that?

Esā, bhikkhave, cintā atthasaį¹hitā, esā ādibrahmacariyakā, esā nibbidāya virāgāya nirodhāya upasamāya abhiƱƱāya sambodhāya nibbānāya saį¹vattati. Because those thoughts are beneficial and relevant to the fundamentals of the spiritual life. They lead to disillusionment, dispassion, cessation, peace, insight, awakening, and extinguishment.

Tasmātiha, bhikkhave, ā€˜idaį¹ dukkhanā€™ti yogo karaį¹‡Ä«yo ā€¦peā€¦ ā€˜ayaį¹ dukkhanirodhagāminÄ« paį¹ipadāā€™ti yogo karaį¹‡Ä«yoā€ti. Thatā€™s why you should practice meditation ā€¦ā€

Aį¹į¹hamaį¹.
