Paį¹hamakoį¹igÄmasutta At the Village of Koį¹i (1st)
Ekaį¹ samayaį¹ bhagavÄ vajjÄ«su viharati koį¹igÄme. At one time the Buddha was staying in the land of the Vajjis at the village of Koį¹i.
Tatra kho bhagavÄ bhikkhÅ« Ämantesi: There the Buddha addressed the mendicants:
ācatunnaį¹, bhikkhave, ariyasaccÄnaį¹ ananubodhÄ appaį¹ivedhÄ evamidaį¹ dÄ«ghamaddhÄnaį¹ sandhÄvitaį¹ saį¹saritaį¹ mamaƱceva tumhÄkaƱca. āMendicants, due to not understanding and not penetrating four noble truths, both you and I have wandered and transmigrated for such a very long time.
Katamesaį¹ catunnaį¹? What four?
Dukkhassa, bhikkhave, ariyasaccassa ananubodhÄ appaį¹ivedhÄ evamidaį¹ dÄ«ghamaddhÄnaį¹ sandhÄvitaį¹ saį¹saritaį¹ mamaƱceva tumhÄkaƱca. The noble truths of suffering,
Dukkhasamudayassa ariyasaccassa ā¦peā¦ the origin of suffering,
dukkhanirodhassa ariyasaccassa ā¦peā¦ the cessation of suffering,
dukkhanirodhagÄminiyÄ paį¹ipadÄya ariyasaccassa ananubodhÄ appaį¹ivedhÄ evamidaį¹ dÄ«ghamaddhÄnaį¹ sandhÄvitaį¹ saį¹saritaį¹ mamaƱceva tumhÄkaƱca. and the practice that leads to the cessation of suffering.
Tayidaį¹, bhikkhave, dukkhaį¹ ariyasaccaį¹ anubuddhaį¹ paį¹ividdhaį¹, dukkhasamudayaį¹ ariyasaccaį¹ anubuddhaį¹ paį¹ividdhaį¹, dukkhanirodhaį¹ ariyasaccaį¹ anubuddhaį¹ paį¹ividdhaį¹, dukkhanirodhagÄminÄ« paį¹ipadÄ ariyasaccaį¹ anubuddhaį¹ paį¹ividdhaį¹; ucchinnÄ bhavataį¹hÄ, khÄ«į¹Ä bhavanetti; natthi dÄni punabbhavoāti. These noble truths of suffering, origin, cessation, and the path have been understood and comprehended. Craving for continued existence has been cut off; the conduit to rebirth is ended; now thereāll be no more future lives.ā
Idamavoca bhagavÄ. That is what the Buddha said.
Idaį¹ vatvÄna sugato athÄparaį¹ etadavoca satthÄ: Then the Holy One, the Teacher, went on to say:
āCatunnaį¹ ariyasaccÄnaį¹, āBecause of not truly seeing
YathÄbhÅ«taį¹ adassanÄ; the four noble truths,
Saį¹sitaį¹ dÄ«ghamaddhÄnaį¹, we have transmigrated for a long time
TÄsu tÄsveva jÄtisu. from one rebirth to the next.
TÄni etÄni diį¹į¹hÄni, But now that these truths have been seen,
bhavanetti samÅ«hatÄ; the conduit to rebirth is eradicated.
Ucchinnaį¹ mÅ«laį¹ dukkhassa, The root of suffering is cut off,
natthi dÄni punabbhavoāti. now thereāll be no more future lives.ā
Paį¹hamaį¹.
