Idamavoca bhagavā. That is what the Buddha said.

Idaį¹ vatvāna sugato athāparaį¹ etadavoca satthā: Then the Holy One, the Teacher, went on to say:

ā€œYe dukkhaį¹ nappajānanti, ā€œThere are those who donā€™t understand suffering

atho dukkhassa sambhavaį¹; and sufferingā€™s cause,

Yattha ca sabbaso dukkhaį¹, and where all suffering

asesaį¹ uparujjhati. ceases with nothing left over.

TaƱca maggaį¹ na jānanti, And they do not know the path

DukkhÅ«pasamagāminaį¹; that leads to the stilling of suffering.

CetovimuttihÄ«nā te, They lack the heartā€™s release,

Atho paƱƱāvimuttiyā; as well as the release by wisdom.

Abhabbā te antakiriyāya, Unable to make an end,

Te ve jātijarūpagā. they continue to be reborn and grow old.

Ye ca dukkhaį¹ pajānanti, But there are those who understand suffering

atho dukkhassa sambhavaį¹; and sufferingā€™s cause,

Yattha ca sabbaso dukkhaį¹, and where all suffering

asesaį¹ uparujjhati. ceases with nothing left over.

TaƱca maggaį¹ pajānanti, And they understand the path

dukkhÅ«pasamagāminaį¹; that leads to the stilling of suffering.

Cetovimuttisampannā, Theyā€™re endowed with the heartā€™s release,

atho paƱƱāvimuttiyā; as well as the release by wisdom.

Bhabbā te antakiriyāya, Able to make an end,

na te jātijarÅ«pagāā€ti. they donā€™t continue to be reborn and grow old.ā€
