Dutiyasūriyasutta The Simile of the Sun (2nd)

ā€œYāvakÄ«vaƱca, bhikkhave, candimasÅ«riyā loke nuppajjanti, neva tāva mahato ālokassa pātubhāvo hoti mahato obhāsassa. ā€œMendicants, as long as the moon and the sun donā€™t arise in the world, no great light or great radiance appears.

Andhatamaį¹ tadā hoti andhakāratimisā. Darkness prevails then, utter darkness.

Neva tāva rattindivā paƱƱāyanti, na māsaddhamāsā paƱƱāyanti, na utusaį¹vaccharā paƱƱāyanti. Day and night arenā€™t found, nor months and fortnights, nor seasons and years.

Yato ca kho, bhikkhave, candimasūriyā loke uppajjanti, atha mahato ālokassa pātubhāvo hoti mahato obhāsassa. But when the moon and the sun arise in the world, a great light, a great radiance appears.

Neva andhakāratamaį¹ tadā hoti na andhakāratimisā. Darkness no longer prevails.

Atha rattindivā paƱƱāyanti, māsaddhamāsā paƱƱāyanti, utusaį¹vaccharā paƱƱāyanti. Day and night are found, and months and fortnights, and seasons and years.

Evameva kho, bhikkhave, yāvakÄ«vaƱca tathāgato loke nuppajjati arahaį¹ sammāsambuddho, neva tāva mahato ālokassa pātubhāvo hoti mahato obhāsassa. In the same way, as long as the Realized One doesnā€™t arise in the world, no great light or great radiance appears.

Neva tāva catunnaį¹ ariyasaccānaį¹ ācikkhaį¹‡Ä hoti desanā paƱƱāpanā paį¹­į¹­hapanā vivaraį¹‡Ä vibhajanā uttānÄ«kammaį¹. Thereā€™s no explanation of the four noble truths, no teaching, advocating, establishing, clarifying, analyzing, and revealing of them.

Yato ca kho, bhikkhave, tathāgato loke uppajjati arahaį¹ sammāsambuddho, atha mahato ālokassa pātubhāvo hoti mahato obhāsassa. But when the Realized One arises in the world, a great light, a great radiance appears.

Dukkhassa ariyasaccassa ā€¦peā€¦ dukkhanirodhagāminiyā paį¹­ipadāya ariyasaccassa. The noble truths of suffering, its origin, its cessation, and the path.

Tasmātiha, bhikkhave, ā€˜idaį¹ dukkhanā€™ti yogo karaį¹‡Ä«yo ā€¦peā€¦ ā€˜ayaį¹ dukkhanirodhagāminÄ« paį¹­ipadāā€™ti yogo karaį¹‡Ä«yoā€ti. Thatā€™s why you should practice meditation ā€¦ā€
