KÅ«į¹­Ägārasutta A Bungalow

ā€œYo hi, bhikkhave, evaį¹ vadeyya: ā€œMendicants, suppose someone were to say:

ā€˜ahaį¹ dukkhaį¹ ariyasaccaį¹ yathābhÅ«taį¹ anabhisamecca ā€¦peā€¦ dukkhanirodhagāminiį¹ paį¹­ipadaį¹ ariyasaccaį¹ yathābhÅ«taį¹ anabhisamecca sammā dukkhassantaį¹ karissāmÄ«ā€™tiā€”ā€˜Without truly comprehending the noble truths of suffering, its origin, its cessation, and the path, I will completely make an end of suffering.ā€™

netaį¹ į¹­hānaį¹ vijjati. That is not possible.

Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, yo evaį¹ vadeyya: Itā€™s as if someone were to say:

ā€˜ahaį¹ kÅ«į¹­Ägārassa heį¹­į¹­himaį¹ gharaį¹ akaritvā uparimaį¹ gharaį¹ āropessāmÄ«ā€™tiā€”ā€˜Before the lower story of a bungalow is built, I will hoist up the upper story.ā€™

netaį¹ į¹­hānaį¹ vijjati; That is not possible.

evameva kho, bhikkhave, yo evaį¹ vadeyya: In the same way, suppose someone were to say:

ā€˜ahaį¹ dukkhaį¹ ariyasaccaį¹ yathābhÅ«taį¹ anabhisamecca ā€¦peā€¦ dukkhanirodhagāminiį¹ paį¹­ipadaį¹ ariyasaccaį¹ yathābhÅ«taį¹ anabhisamecca sammā dukkhassantaį¹ karissāmÄ«ā€™tiā€”ā€˜Without truly comprehending the noble truths of suffering, its origin, its cessation, and the path, I will completely make an end of suffering.ā€™

Tasmātiha, bhikkhave, ā€˜idaį¹ dukkhanā€™ti yogo karaį¹‡Ä«yo ā€¦peā€¦ ā€˜ayaį¹ dukkhanirodhagāminÄ« paį¹­ipadāā€™ti yogo karaį¹‡Ä«yoā€ti. Thatā€™s why you should practice meditation ā€¦ā€
