āYo hi, bhikkhave, evaį¹ vadeyya: āMendicants, suppose someone were to say:
āahaį¹ dukkhaį¹ ariyasaccaį¹ yathÄbhÅ«taį¹ anabhisamecca ā¦peā¦ dukkhanirodhagÄminiį¹ paį¹ipadaį¹ ariyasaccaį¹ yathÄbhÅ«taį¹ anabhisamecca sammÄ dukkhassantaį¹ karissÄmÄ«ātiāāWithout truly comprehending the noble truths of suffering, its origin, its cessation, and the path, I will completely make an end of suffering.ā
netaį¹ į¹hÄnaį¹ vijjati. That is not possible.
SeyyathÄpi, bhikkhave, yo evaį¹ vadeyya: Itās as if someone were to say:
āahaį¹ kÅ«į¹ÄgÄrassa heį¹į¹himaį¹ gharaį¹ akaritvÄ uparimaį¹ gharaį¹ ÄropessÄmÄ«ātiāāBefore the lower story of a bungalow is built, I will hoist up the upper story.ā

evameva kho, bhikkhave, yo evaį¹ vadeyya: In the same way, suppose someone were to say:
āahaį¹ dukkhaį¹ ariyasaccaį¹ yathÄbhÅ«taį¹ anabhisamecca ā¦peā¦ dukkhanirodhagÄminiį¹ paį¹ipadaį¹ ariyasaccaį¹ yathÄbhÅ«taį¹ anabhisamecca sammÄ dukkhassantaį¹ karissÄmÄ«ātiāāWithout truly comprehending the noble truths of suffering, its origin, its cessation, and the path, I will completely make an end of suffering.ā
