āSeyyathÄpi, bhikkhave, himavÄ pabbatarÄjÄ parikkhayaį¹ pariyÄdÄnaį¹ gaccheyya, į¹hapetvÄ satta sÄsapamattiyo pÄsÄį¹asakkharÄ. āMendicants, suppose the Himalayas, the king of mountains, was worn away and eroded except for seven pebbles the size of mustard seeds.
Taį¹ kiį¹ maƱƱatha, bhikkhave, What do you think, mendicants?
katamaį¹ nu kho bahutaraį¹āyaį¹ vÄ himavato pabbatarÄjassa parikkhÄ«į¹aį¹ pariyÄdinnaį¹, yÄ vÄ satta sÄsapamattiyo pÄsÄį¹asakkharÄ avasiį¹į¹hÄāti? Which is more: the portion of the Himalayas, the king of mountains, that has been worn away and eroded, or the seven pebbles the size of mustard seeds that are left?ā
āEtadeva, bhante, bahutaraį¹ himavato pabbatarÄjassa yadidaį¹ parikkhÄ«į¹aį¹ pariyÄdinnaį¹; appamattikÄ satta sÄsapamattiyo pÄsÄį¹asakkharÄ avasiį¹į¹hÄ. āSir, the portion of the Himalayas, the king of mountains, that has been worn away and eroded is certainly more. The seven pebbles the size of mustard seeds are tiny.

āEvameva kho, bhikkhave, ariyasÄvakassa diį¹į¹hisampannassa puggalassa abhisametÄvino etadeva bahutaraį¹ dukkhaį¹ yadidaį¹ parikkhÄ«į¹aį¹ pariyÄdinnaį¹; appamattakaį¹ avasiį¹į¹haį¹. āIn the same way, for a person with comprehension, a noble disciple accomplished in view, the suffering thatās over and done with is more, whatās left is tiny.
