Pettidevapettivisayasutta Dying as Ghosts and Reborn as Ghosts
ā¦ āEvameva kho, bhikkhave, appakÄ te sattÄ ye pettivisayÄ cutÄ devesu paccÄjÄyanti; atha kho eteva bahutarÄ sattÄ ye pettivisayÄ cutÄ pettivisaye paccÄjÄyanti. āā¦ the sentient beings who die as ghosts and are reborn as gods are few, while those who die as ghosts and are reborn in the ghost realm are many.
Taį¹ kissa hetu? Why is that?
Adiį¹į¹hattÄ, bhikkhave, catunnaį¹ ariyasaccÄnaį¹. Itās because they havenāt seen the four noble truths.
Katamesaį¹ catunnaį¹? What four?
Dukkhassa ariyasaccassa, dukkhasamudayassa ariyasaccassa, dukkhanirodhassa ariyasaccassa, dukkhanirodhagÄminiyÄ paį¹ipadÄya ariyasaccassa. The noble truths of suffering, the origin of suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the practice that leads to the cessation of suffering.
TasmÄtiha, bhikkhave, āidaį¹ dukkhanāti yogo karaį¹Ä«yo, āayaį¹ dukkhasamudayoāti yogo karaį¹Ä«yo, āayaį¹ dukkhanirodhoāti yogo karaį¹Ä«yo, āayaį¹ dukkhanirodhagÄminÄ« paį¹ipadÄāti yogo karaį¹Ä«yoāti. Thatās why you should practice meditation to understand: āThis is sufferingā ā¦ āThis is the origin of sufferingā ā¦ āThis is the cessation of sufferingā ā¦ āThis is the practice that leads to the cessation of sufferingā.ā
Idamavoca bhagavÄ. That is what the Buddha said.
AttamanÄ te bhikkhÅ« bhagavato bhÄsitaį¹ abhinandunti. Satisfied, the mendicants approved what the Buddha said.
