Adhikaraį¹‡asamatha The settling of legal issues

Ime kho panāyasmanto satta adhikaraį¹‡asamathā dhammā uddesaį¹ āgacchanti. ā€œVenerables, these seven principles for the settling of legal issues come up for recitation.

Uppannuppannānaį¹ adhikaraį¹‡Änaį¹ samathāya vÅ«pasamāya For the settling and resolving of legal issues whenever they arise there is:

sammukhāvinayo dātabbo, Resolution face-to-face to be applied;

sativinayo dātabbo, Resolution through recollection to be granted;

amÅ«įø·havinayo dātabbo, Resolution because of past insanity to be granted;

paį¹­iƱƱāya kāretabbaį¹, Acting according to what has been admitted;

yebhuyyasikā, Majority decision;

tassapāpiyasikā, Further penalty;

tiį¹‡avatthārakoti. Covering over as if with grass.

Uddiį¹­į¹­hā kho, āyasmanto, satta adhikaraį¹‡asamathā dhammā. Venerables, the seven principles for the settling of legal issues have been recited.

Tatthāyasmante pucchāmiā€”In regard to this I ask you,

ā€œkaccittha parisuddhāā€? ā€˜Are you pure in this?ā€™

Dutiyampi pucchāmiā€”A second time I ask,

ā€œkaccittha parisuddhāā€? ā€˜Are you pure in this?ā€™

Tatiyampi pucchāmiā€”A third time I ask,

ā€œkaccittha parisuddhāā€? ā€˜Are you pure in this?ā€™

Parisuddhetthāyasmanto, tasmā tuį¹‡hÄ«, evametaį¹ dhārayāmÄ«ti. You are pure in this and therefore silent. Iā€™ll remember it thus.ā€

Adhikaraį¹‡asamathā niį¹­į¹­hitā. The seven principles for the settling of legal issues are finished.

Uddiį¹­į¹­haį¹ kho, āyasmanto, nidānaį¹; ā€œVenerables, the introduction has been recited;

uddiį¹­į¹­hā cattāro pārājikā dhammā; the four rules on expulsion have been recited;

uddiį¹­į¹­hā terasa saį¹…ghādisesā dhammā; the thirteen rules on suspension have been recited;

uddiį¹­į¹­hā dve aniyatā dhammā; the two undetermined rules have been recited;

uddiį¹­į¹­hā tiį¹sa nissaggiyā pācittiyā dhammā; the thirty rules on relinquishment and confession have been recited;

uddiį¹­į¹­hā dvenavuti pācittiyā dhammā; the ninety-two rules on confession have been recited;

uddiį¹­į¹­hā cattāro pāį¹­idesanÄ«yā dhammā; the four rules on acknowledgment have been recited;

uddiį¹­į¹­hā sekhiyā dhammā; the rules to be trained in have been recited;

uddiį¹­į¹­hā satta adhikaraį¹‡asamathā dhammā. the seven principles for the settling of legal issues have been recited.

Ettakaį¹ tassa bhagavato suttāgataį¹ suttapariyāpannaį¹ anvaddhamāsaį¹ uddesaį¹ āgacchati. This much has come down and is included in the Monastic Code of the Buddha and comes up for recitation every half-month.

Tattha sabbeheva samaggehi sammodamānehi avivadamānehi sikkhitabbanti. In regard to this everyone should train in unity, in concord, without dispute.ā€
