I. Prologue

evaṃ mayā śrutam

ekasmiṃ samaye bhagavāṃ Śrāvastyāṃ viharati Jetavane Anāthapiṇḍadārāme /

atha saṃbahulānāṃ bhikṣūṇāṃ Karīrikamaṇḍalavāṭe saṃniṣaṇṇānāṃ saṃnipatitānām ayam evaṃrūpo 'bhūd antarākathāsamudāhāraḥ

āścaryam āyuṣmanto yāvac ca bhagavataḥ atīteṣu samyaksaṃbuddheṣu atītāṃśabhāvagateṣu chinnavartmasu chinnapuṭeṣu niṣprapaṃceṣu prapaṃcātīteṣu parinirvṛteṣu kāruṇikeṣu nirāśiṣeṣu evaṃ samyak pratyātmaṃ jñānadarśanaṃ pravartate /

evaṃśīlā bata te buddhā bhagavaṃto babhūvur ity api evaṃdharmāṇa evaṃprajñā evamabhijñā evaṃvimuktaya evaṃvihāriṇo bata te buddhā bhagavanto babhūvur ity api /

kiṃ nu bhagavato dharmadhātuḥ supratividdhaḥ āho svid devatā ārocayaṃti yena tathāgatasyātīteṣu samyaksaṃbuddheṣu atītāṃśabhāvagateṣu chinnavartmasu chinnapuṭeṣu niṣprapaṃceṣu prapañcātīteṣu parinirvṛteṣu kāruṇikeṣu nirāśiṣeṣu evaṃ samyak pratyātmaṃ jñānadarśanaṃ pravartate evaṃśīlā bata te buddhā bhagavaṃto babhūvur ity apy evaṃdharmāṇa evaṃprajñā evamabhijñā evaṃvimuktaya evaṃvihāriṇo bata te buddhā bhagavaṃto babhūvur ity api /

niṣadya bhagavāṃ bhikṣūn āmantrayati kā nu yuṣmākaṃ bhikṣavaḥ saṃbahulānāṃ bhikṣūṇāṃ Karīrikamaṇḍalavāṭe saṃniṣaṇṇānāṃ saṃnipatitānām antarākathā viprakṛtā kayā cāpi kathayaitarhi sanniṣaṇṇāḥ saṃnipatitāḥ

iyam asmākaṃ bhadaṃta saṃbahulānāṃ bhiksūṇāṃ Karīrikamaṇḍalavāṭe saṃniṣaṃṇānāṃ saṃnipatitānām antarākathā viprakṛtā tayā cāpi bhagavan kathayā etarhi saṃniṣaṃṇāḥ saṃnipatitā api me bhikṣavo dharmadhātuḥ supratividdha api me devatā ārocayanti iyam atra dharmatā tasmād idam ucyate ||

pūrvaṃ kathā dhārmikī arthasaṃhitā

udāhṛtā maṇḍalavāṭabhikṣubhiḥ

aśrauṣīd divyena hi śrotradhātunā

divāvihāropagato mahāmuniḥ

divyena śrotreṇa niśāmya śāstā

upāgato maṇḍalavāṭabhikṣūn

nyaṣīdat sa hi bhikṣugaṇasya madhye

Śakro yathendras tridaśeṣu madhye 2

pratividdho dharmadhātur buddhenādityabandhunā /

yenābhyatītāṃ jānāti saṃbuddhāṃ dvipadottamaḥ

evaṃnāmā evaṃjātyā evaṃgotrāś ca te 'bhavan

yathā yathā ca te āsaṃ sarve vyākṛtavāṃ muniḥ 4

nānādīrghāyuṣo devā varṇavanto yaśasvinaḥ

sevam ārocayaṃty arthaṃ saṃbuddhānāṃ yaśasvinām 5 ||

Kāśyapasya samyaksaṃbuddhasya śrāvakānām eko mahāsannipāto babhūva viṅśatir bhikṣusahasrāṇi /

asmākam apy etarhi śrāvakānām eko mahāsaṃnipāta ardhatrayodaśa bhikṣuśatāni iyam atra dharmatā tasmād idam ucyate||

dharmatā khalu yasmiṃ samaye Vipaśyī bodhisatvas Tuṣitād devanikāyāc cyavitvā mātuḥ kukṣāv avakrāmati atyarthaṃ tasmiṃ samaye mahāpṛthivīcālaś cābhūt sarvaś cāyaṃ loka udāreṇāvabhāsena sphuṭo 'bhūt yā api tā lokasya lokāntarikā andhastamā andhākāratamisrā yatremau sūryācandramasāv evaṃmahardhikau mahānubhāvau ābhayā ābhāṃ nānubhavataḥ tā api tasmiṃ samaye udāreṇāvabhāsena sphuṭā abhūvaṃ tatra ye satvā upapannās te tayā ābhayā anyonyaṃ satvaṃ saṃjānate anye 'pi bhavaṃtaḥ satvā ihopapannā anye 'pi bhavaṃtaḥ satvā ihopapannā iyam atra dharmatā tasmād idam ucyate ||

yathāpi megho vipulaḥ susaṃbhṛto

bahūdako mārutavegamūrcchitaḥ

tathopamaṃ kukṣim avākramaṃ muniḥ

śatahradāṃ sūrya ivābhyupāgataḥ

avabhāsayaṃ hi janatās samantataḥ

dharmatā khalu yasmiṃ samaye Vipaśyī bodhisatvas Tuṣitād devanikāyāc cyavitvā mātuḥ kukṣāv asthāt tato 'sya Śakreṇa devendreṇa catvāro devaputrā mātur ārakṣakā sthāpitā mā etāṃ kaścid viheṭhayiṣyati manuṣyo vā amanuṣyo vā iyam atra dharmatā tasmād idam ucyate ||

te devaputrā sahitāś caturdiśaṃ

mahātmadevānugatā yaśasvinā /

Śakreṇa proktāḥ paramārthadarśino

rakṣāṃ kurudhvaṃ sugatasya mātuḥ

niṣkṛṣṭaśastrāyudhakhaḍgapāṇayaḥ

sutīkṣṇarūpāṃ vyavalaṃbya śaktim

mā tāṃ manuṣyā atha vāpi rākṣasā

viheṭhayeyuḥ sugatasya mātaram

sā devaguptā varabhūtarakṣitā

yaśasvinī devagaṇaiḥ supālitā /

krīḍaty asāv apsarasa iva Nandane

tathā tad āsīd iyam atra dharmatā ||

3. He is as Pure as a Jewel

dharmatā khalu yasmiṃ samaye Vipaśyī bodhisatvas Tuṣitād devanikāyāc cyavitvā mātuḥ kukṣāv asthāt kośogata evāsthād amrakṣito garbhamalena jubhramalena rudhiramalena anyatamānyatamena vā aśuciprākṛtena tadyathā maṇiratnaṃ Kāśikaratne upanikṣiptaṃ naiva maṇiratnaṃ Kāśikaratnenopalipyate na Kāśikaratnaṃ maṇiratnena iyam atra dharmatā tasmād idam ucyate ||

yathāpi taṃ maṇiratnaṃ prabhāsvaraṃ

na lipyate paramaśucau hi Kāśike /

tathopamaḥ kukṣigato narottamo

na lipyate aśucikṛtena paṇḍitaḥ ||

4. He is Like an Eight Faceted Gem

dharmatā khalu yasmiṃ samaye Vipaśyī bodhisatvas Tuṣitād devanikāyāc cyavitvā mātuḥ kukṣāv asthāt sarvam enaṃ mātā paripūrṇaṃ kukṣigataṃ paśyati tadyathā maṇir vaiḍūrya aṣṭāṃśo jātimāṃ śuddho viprasanna anāvilaḥ pañcaraṅgike sūtre arpita syān nīle pīte lohite avadāte māṃjiṣṭhe taṃ cakṣuṣmāṃ puruṣo dṛṣṭvā jānīyād idaṃ sūtram ayaṃ maṇiḥsūtre maṇir arpita iyam atra dharmatā tasmād idam ucyate ||

yathāpy asau vaiḍūryako mahāmaṇi

prabhāsvaraḥ sūryamarīcisaṃnibhaḥ

tathopamaṃ kukṣigataṃ narottamaṃ

Vipaśyimātā paripūrṇam īkṣate ||

5. He Does Not Fatigue His Mother

gaṃbhīram etaṃ nipuṇaṃ sudurdṛśaṃ

asmiṃ satīdaṃ hi sadā pravartate

asati ca tasmiṃ hi sadā na bhavati

yadā prajānāti yatonidānaṃ

yāṃ pratyayān āyatanāni santi /

na tasya bhūya ito bahirdhā

paryeṣaṇā bhavati svayaṃ viditvā

śrutvā ca punar eṣām etad abhavan na batāvaro dharmo bhaviṣyati nāvaraṃ dharmākhyānaṃ yatredānīṃ Khaṇḍaś ca rājakumāras Tiṣyaś ca purohitaputras tathā sukumārau tathā sukhaiṣiṇau keśaśmaśrūṇy avatārya kāṣāyāṇi vastrāṇy āchādya samyag eva śraddhayā agārād anagārikāṃ pravrajitau śrutvā ca punas te 'pi keśaśmaśrūṇy avatārya kāṣāyāṇi vastrāṇy āchādya samyag eva śraddhayāgārād anagārikāṃ pravrajitā iyam atra dharmatā tasmād idam ucyate ||

yāvat susaṃvejakāḥ śuddhasatvā /

śrutvāhi pravrajitau KhaṇḍaTiṣyau

pravrajyāṃ tatra samupāgatāś ca ||

nirgatayor dvayor varṣayor devatā ārocayanti nirgate bhadantāś ṣaṇṇāṃ varṣānāṃ dve varṣe caturṇāṃ varṣāṇām atyayād bhavadbhir Bandhumatīṃ rājadhānīṃ gaṃtavyaṃ prātimokṣasūtroddeśaṃ śrotum

evam eva Vipaśyī samyaksaṃbuddhas tasya dvāṣaṣṭasya bhikṣuśatasahasrāṇāṃ purataḥ paryaṅke paryaṅkena nyaṣīdan niṣadya Vipaśyī samyaksaṃbuddhaḥ prātimokṣasūtroddeśam uddiśati ||

kṣāṃtiḥ paramaṃ tapas titīkṣā

nirvāṇaṃ paramaṃ vadanti buddhāḥ

na hi pravrajitaḥ paropatāpī

śramaṇo bhavati parāṃ viheṭhayānaḥ ||

iyam atra dharmatā tasmād idam ucyate ||
