Chapter Four
“Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, mama sāvakānaṁ bhikkhūnaṁ bahussutānaṁ yadidaṁ ānando.
“The foremost of my monk disciples who are very learned is Ānanda.
… Satimantānaṁ yadidaṁ ānando.
… with a good memory is Ānanda.
… Gatimantānaṁ yadidaṁ ānando.
… with an extensive range is Ānanda.
… Dhitimantānaṁ yadidaṁ ānando.
… in retention is Ānanda.
… Upaṭṭhākānaṁ yadidaṁ ānando.
… as a personal attendant is Ānanda.
… Mahāparisānaṁ yadidaṁ uruvelakassapo.
… with a large congregation is Kassapa of Uruvelā.
… Kulappasādakānaṁ yadidaṁ kāḷudāyī.
… who inspire lay families is Kāḷudāyī.
… Appābādhānaṁ yadidaṁ bākulo.
… with good health is Bakkula.
… Pubbenivāsaṁ anussarantānaṁ yadidaṁ sobhito.
… who recollect past lives is Sobhita.
… Vinayadharānaṁ yadidaṁ upāli.
… who have memorized the monastic law is Upāli.
… Bhikkhunovādakānaṁ yadidaṁ nandako.
… who advise the nuns is Nandaka.
… Indriyesu guttadvārānaṁ yadidaṁ nando.
… who guard the sense doors is Nanda.
… Bhikkhuovādakānaṁ yadidaṁ mahākappino.
… who advise the monks is Mahākappina.
… Tejodhātukusalānaṁ yadidaṁ sāgato.
… who are skilled in the fire element is Sāgata.
… Paṭibhāneyyakānaṁ yadidaṁ rādho.
… who inspire eloquent teachings is Rādha.
… Lūkhacīvaradharānaṁ yadidaṁ mogharājā”ti.
… who wear coarse robes is Mogharājā.”
