The training rule on defecating while standing

Tena samayena buddho bhagavā sāvatthiyaṁ viharati jetavane anāthapiṇḍikassa ārāme.
At one time the Buddha was staying at Sāvatthī in the Jeta Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s Monastery.

Tena kho pana samayena chabbaggiyā bhikkhū ṭhitā uccārampi passāvampi karonti …pe….
At that time the monks from the group of six were defecating and urinating while standing. …

“Na ṭhito agilāno uccāraṁ vā passāvaṁ vā karissāmīti sikkhā karaṇīyā”ti.
“‘When not sick, I will not defecate or urinate while standing,’ this is how you should train.”

Na ṭhitena agilānena uccāro vā passāvo vā kātabbo.
If one is not sick, one should not defecate or urinate while standing.

Yo anādariyaṁ paṭicca ṭhito agilāno uccāraṁ vā passāvaṁ vā karoti, āpatti dukkaṭassa.
If, out of disrespect, a monk who is not sick defecates or urinates while standing, he commits an offense of wrong conduct.

Anāpatti—
There is no offense:

asañcicca …pe…
if it is unintentional;

ādikammikassāti.
if he is the first offender.

Terasamasikkhāpadaṁ niṭṭhitaṁ.
The thirteenth training rule is finished.
