At Savatthi.
Ekamantaṁ ṭhitā kho sā devatā bhagavato santike imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi:
Standing to one side, that deity recited this verse in the Buddha’s presence:
Standing to one side, that devatā recited this verse in the presence of the Blessed One:
“Yesaṁ dhammā susammuṭṭhā,
“Those who are very confused about the teachings,
“Those who are utterly muddled about things,
paravādesu nīyare;
who may be led astray by the doctrines of others;
Who may be led into others’ doctrines,
Suttā te nappabujjhanti,
asleep, they have not woken up:
Fast asleep, they have not yet awakened:
kālo tesaṁ pabujjhitun”ti.
it is time for them to wake!”
It is time for them to awaken.”
“Yesaṁ dhammā asammuṭṭhā,
“Those who are unconfused about the teachings,
“Those who aren’t muddled about things,
paravādesu na nīyare;
who won’t be led astray by the doctrines of others;
Who cannot be led into others’ doctrines,
Te sambuddhā sammadaññā,
they’ve woken up, they rightly know,
Those awakened ones, having rightly known,
caranti visame saman”ti.
they walk smoothly in the rough.”
Fare evenly amidst the uneven. ”
